Unifying the QBO, MJO Shallow‐to‐Deep Convection Transitions, and Mesoscale Convective Systems
Abstract This study investigates Madden‐Julian Oscillation (MJO) convective structures to better understand how the Quasi‐biennial Oscillation (QBO) impacts MJO propagation. We find that during the QBO easterly (QBOE) phase, MJO events exhibit convective features that are highly favorable for propagation.

Rapid HCl Production From Chlorine Oxidation Sustains Coastal Atmospheric Chlorine Cycling
Abstract Hydrogen chloride (HCl) is a major tropospheric reservoir of reactive chlorine. In coastal environments, it is thought to primarily originate from acid displacement of particulate chloride (Cl−). Here we demonstrate that chlorine radical oxidation of volatile organic compounds dominates HCl formation (∼64%) at a polluted coastal site with ...

Abstract In June 2024, the Eastern Mediterranean experienced its hottest June since 1960. However, the relative contributions of anthropogenic forcing and natural variability to this event, and the roles of atmospheric circulation and soil moisture, remain unclear.

Orographic Effects on Precipitation From Hurricane Helene
Abstract Hurricane Helene was deadly and destructive, with orographically driven precipitation in the Appalachians contributing to historic rainfall and flooding. Here, we quantify the orographic effects on precipitation from Hurricane Helene using a novel set of global, cloud‐resolving simulations with and without the Appalachian Mountains using the ...

Abstract We developed an innovative balloon‐borne observation system based on China's BeiDou sounding platform that integrates a three‐axis electric field sensor for in‐cloud measurements of thunderstorm electrification. On 13 May 2025, this system was deployed during a severe convective storm over Beijing. In combination with multisource observations,

Abstract The orographic precipitation enhancement (OPE) generated within wintertime post‐frontal air masses is a prominent climate feature of Tasmania. This study investigates a passage of a cold sector of a mid‐latitude cyclone over the Southern Ocean (SO) and Western Tasmania (WTAS) observed from 2100 UTC 11 July to 0300 UTC 13 July.
