True Triaxial Testing of Anisotropic Solids

56th U.S. Rock Mechanics/Geomechanics Symposium, 2022
ABSTRACT: Accurate determination of rock mechanical properties (particularly sedimentary shales, mica and schists with foliation and bedding planes) is critical to the safe design and excavation of underground mines and tunnels.

Development of a True Triaxial Testing Apparatus

Geotechnical Testing Journal, 1992
Abstract A stress-controlled, flexible boundary, true (or cubical) triaxial apparatus has been developed to investigate the behavior of cemented sand under various stress paths which are not achievable using conventional axisymmetric triaxial apparatus.

Analysis of Shear Banding in True Triaxial Tests on Sand

Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 2001
A series of true triaxial tests have been performed on rectangular prismatic specimens of Santa Monica Beach sand at three different relative densities to study the occurrence of failure, mechanism...

True Triaxial Yielding and Hardening of Rock

Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 1987
Analysis of test results for intact and granulated marbles (cemented and noncemented granular materials) adds to the indications that strain softening does not express a real material behavior; it highlights similarities in stressstrain relations and confirms equality of a stress and a plastic strain invariant. The physical meaning of the parameters of

A True Triaxial Testing Cell

1988
Results of both drained and undrained triaxial tests performed with a true triaxial cell on both natural and artificial clays are presented and discussed. The true triaxial apparatus, which has been used for about 20 years, is fully described. The apparatus has recently been modified to improve the measurement of lateral deformations.

The Cambridge True Triaxial Apparatus

1988
In true triaxial apparatus, samples of soil are subjected to three independent principal stresses and strains. Such apparatus can readily be used for controlled exploration of principal stress or principal strain space to provide information concerning the anisotropic response of the soil to aid the development of constitutive relations.
