The Biology of Acroceridae (Diptera): True Endoparasitoids of Spiders

1987
The dipterous parasitoids and predators of spiders are restricted to a few families of Diptera and vary considerably in their mode of action. Members of the families Drosophilidae, Phoridae, Chloropidae, and Sarcophagidae are known to predate on eggs of several families of spiders (Clausen 1940; Eason et al. 1967).

The true spider plant

Trends in Plant Science, 2001
In the UK, the house-plant Chlorophytum elatum is commonly known as the spider plant. However, it seems that the name is more appropriate to certain tobacco and potato plants that have been engineered to make spider silk proteins (‘spidroins’). Because of its remarkable lightness, strength and recyclability, spider silk could replace plastic for many ...

“The True Story of Insy Winsy by A. Spider”

Reading, 2002
This paper investigates how the writing of some Year 6 children was influenced by exposure to the work of a contemporary author of children’s literature and through reading a variety of fairy stories, traditional tales, fables and nursery rhymes. Their growing awareness of the way in which story structures are constructed in particular genres resulted ...

Superfamily Platygastroidea: Natural Enemies of True Bugs, Moths, Other Insects, and Spiders

2021
In this chapter I focused on platygastroid egg parasitoids, mainly egg parasitoids of sunn pests (Hem. Pentatomoidea). First a checklist of Iranian species of this taxon is offered. Then we will go directly to sunn pests’ egg parasitoids, their richness and distribution and factors influencing them.

Neuropeptide discovery in the Araneae (Arthropoda, Chelicerata, Arachnida): Elucidation of true spider peptidomes using that of the Western black widow as a reference

General and Comparative Endocrinology, 2015
The public deposition of large transcriptome shotgun assembly (TSA) datasets for the Araneae (true spiders) provides a resource for determining the structures of the native neuropeptides present in members of this chelicerate order. Here, the Araneae TSA data were mined for putative peptide-encoding transcripts using the recently deduced neuropeptide ...

Populations of Arboreal Spiders (Araneae) on Douglas-Firs and True Firs in the Interior Pacific Northwest

Environmental Entomology, 1992
Population densities and relative abundances of spider families were estimated on Douglas-fir, Pseudotsugata menziessii var. glauca (Beissn.) Franco and true firs, Abies spp., in three geographical provinces of the interior Pacific Northwest: the Southern Cascades, the Northern Cascades, and the Blue Mountains.

Comparison of the Seasonal Occurrence of the Major True Spiders (Araneida) in some Crop Systems and A Natural Habitat in Western Saudi Arabia

Archives Of Phytopathology And Plant Protection, 2002
The seasonal occurrence of spider community belonging to 10 families was determined in three different habitats: vegetable, date-palm and mixed weed habitats in Western Saudi Arabia. Different densities were observed in all habitats, however the vegetable habitat showed high number of spiders. This may be due to variability of food sources.

One generalist or several specialist species? Wide host range and diverse manipulations of the hosts’ web‐building behaviour in the true spider parasitoid Zatypota kauros (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae)

Insect Conservation and Diversity, 2018
Abstract Parasitoid wasps of the Polysphincta genus‐group are highly specialised on their spider hosts, and most of them are known to manipulate their hosts into building a special web in ...
