Temperature induced pore fluid pressurization in geomaterials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The theoretical basis of the thermal response of the fluid-saturated porous materials in undrained condition is presented. It has been demonstrated that the thermal pressurization phenomenon is controlled by the discrepancy between the thermal expansion ...

Behavior of Long‐Slotted Perforated Steel Plate Fuses in Timber Brace End Connections

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Steel perforated plate fuses have emerged as a promising solution for mass timber seismic force‐resisting systems, offering tunable energy dissipation mechanisms, such as flexural and shear yielding, through geometric adjustments. This study examines the cyclic performance of perforated steel plate fuses employed in timber braced frames, with ...

Energy Evolution and Fractal Characteristics of Sandstones Under True Triaxial Cyclic Loading and Unloading

open access: yesFractal and Fractional
To study the fractal characteristics and energy evolution of sandstones under true three-dimensional stress states, a true triaxial compression test and a cyclic loading and unloading test of sandstone specimens under different loads were carried out ...

Research on Precise Identification of Rock Strength Based on Bolt Drilling Parameters

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Drilling detection test platform. ABSTRACT During roadway excavation, the presence of weak interlayers and fractured rock masses significantly affects roof stability. To achieve timely and effective roadway support, it is crucial to identify and predict different rock types based on drilling signals from roof bolters.

A new smooth failure criterion for concrete inspired by Lubliner's condition

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract A new failure criterion with 10 parameters is proposed, based on Lubliner's idea of joining two Drucker–Prager cones. The novelty lies in the way of introducing deviatoric shape variation: through two Podgórski's functions. This feature allows for improving plane stress cross‐section's compatibility with experimental data.

Computational Investigation on the Combined Effect of Applied Strain and Pore Configuration on Strain Concentrators in Additively Manufactured Metals

open access: yesFatigue &Fracture of Engineering Materials &Structures, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Metal additive manufacturing (AM) provides a pathway for creating highly optimized components that would be difficult to produce using traditional manufacturing methods. However, regardless of printing parameters or postprocessing, porosity remains a prevalent challenge in AM components because strain concentrates in the vicinity of the pore ...

Extended Kelvin–Voigt Model for Simulating Thermally Accelerated Creep in Fine‐Grained Soils

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, Volume 50, Issue 4, Page 1843-1854, March 2026.
ABSTRACT The subsurface undergoes temperature variations in many situations due to anthropogenic and natural causes, which strongly influence the long‐term behavior of soils. These phenomena can involve temperature anomalies in the ground across distances of a few meters, as in the case of nuclear waste repositories, to distances encompassing entire ...

The Effect of Graphene on the Fatigue Response and Failure Mechanism of Composite Materials: A Review

open access: yesFatigue &Fracture of Engineering Materials &Structures, Volume 49, Issue 3, Page 933-962, March 2026.
ABSTRACT This review investigates the influence of graphene on the fatigue performance of polymer‐based composites, focusing on both unreinforced matrices and fiber‐reinforced composite laminates. Graphene materials, including nanoplatelets, graphene oxide, and hybrid nanostructures, offer exceptional mechanical, electrical, and barrier properties that
