Endochronic Modeling of Sand in True Triaxial Test
Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1985The endochronic constitutive equation is written in differential form, which is then used to describe the deviatoric behavior of drained sand in true triaxial test. Explicit equations have been derived. The modified concept of intrinsic time is applied so that no built‐in discontinuities exist in the constitutive equation. Triaxial compression test (TC)

Triaxial and True Triaxial Testing of Preserved and Partially Saturated Shale
Proceedings, 2016Samples of a clay-rich shale have been subjected to standard and true triaxial stress conditions to investigate the impact of the intermediate principal stress on shale strength and elastic stiffness. In addition, samples were immersed in different relative humidity environments to evaluate the impact of changing water saturation on rock properties ...

Results of both drained and undrained triaxial tests performed with a true triaxial cell on both natural and artificial clays are presented and discussed. The true triaxial apparatus, which has been used for about 20 years, is fully described. The apparatus has recently been modified to improve the measurement of lateral deformations.

DEM simulations of sandstone under true triaxial compressive tests
Acta Geotechnica, 2016Numerically simulated true triaxial compression tests (σ 1 ≥ σ 2 ≥ σ 3) are conducted in this study to elucidate the failure mechanism of sandstone using 3D discrete element method (DEM), in particular the effect of the intermediate principal stress (σ 2 ...

Results of true triaxial strength tests on rock salt
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1990Abstract Knowledge of the thermomechanical properties of rock salt is important for the dimensioning of a permanent repository for radioactive wastes in a salt dome and for the necessary safety analysis, as well as for the design of mines and caverns.

Behavior of EPS geofoam in true triaxial compression tests
Geotextiles and Geomembranes, 2008Abstract This paper investigates the behavior of EPS geofoam in a true triaxial apparatus using 70 mm×70 mm×140 mm prismatic brick-shaped specimens. The specimens are subjected to different stress paths in the deviator ( π ) plane by means of stress-controlled loading, in which the axial stress is imposed at a rate of 75 kPa/min in the major ...

True Triaxial Tests on Natural Shanghai Clay
2018Drained true triaxial tests on undisturbed and remolded Shanghai silty clay were carried out to investigate the influence of intermediate principle stress on the strength and deformation of natural clay. Test results show that not only the shear strength, but also the volume change of Shanghai clay decreases with the increase of Lode angle θ. The shear

In this work, a constitutive model that predicts the mechanical behaviour of Opalinus clay is developed. The model is based on the theory of plasticity, and takes into consideration the inherent anisotropy due to the existence of bedding planes, hardening behaviour before the peak strength, softening behaviour after the peak, and creep effects.

True triaxial hydraulic fracturing test and numerical simulation of limestone
Journal of Central South University, 2020Hydraulic fracturing, as a key technology of deep energy exploitation, accelerates the rapid development of the modern petroleum industry. To study the mechanisms of hydraulic fracture propagation and rock failure mode of the vertical well hydraulic fracturing, the true triaxial hydraulic fracturing test and numerical simulation are carried out, and ...

Development of a True Triaxial Testing Facility for Composite Materials
2000An electromechanical testing facility capable of applying any combination of tensile and/or compressive forces to three mutually orthogonal axes of a thickness-tapered composite cruciform specimen was designed, fabricated, assembled, and evaluated. Any stress ratio in biaxial (σ1 - σ2) or triaxial (σ1 - σ2 - σ3) stress space can be explored using this ...
