Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.

In-vitro effects of biochemical factors on trypsin activity from intestine and pyloric caeca of common kilka (Clupeonella cultriventris caspia) for inhibition of belly bursting

open access: yes‬‭Majallah-i ̒Ilmī-i Shīlāt-i Īrān, 2011
The in-vitro effects of biochemical factors on trypsin activity from intestine and pyloric caeca of common kilka (Clupeonella cultriventris caspia) was evaluated. Trypsin is known to cause belly bursting in common kilka.

Assessment and partial purification of serine protease inhibitors from Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) annulatuslarvae

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Parasitologia Veterinária
Ticks are rich sources of serine protease inhibitors, particularly those that prevent blood clotting and inflammatory responses during blood feeding. The tick Rhipicephalus (Boophlus) annulatusis an important ectoparasite of cattle.

Fusion assays for screening of fusion inhibitors targeting SARS-CoV-2 entry and syncytia formation

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2022
Virus fusion process is evolutionarily conserved and provides a promising pan-viral target. Cell-cell fusion leads to syncytial formation and has implications in pathogenesis, virus spread and immune evasion.

PAK1 activation drives divergent resistance mechanisms to aromatase inhibition and tamoxifen in a luminal: A breast cancer model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer remains a major cause of cancer death in women, frequently developing endocrine therapy resistance. This study demonstrates that upregulated p21‐activated kinase 1 (PAK1) activity drives resistance to tamoxifen and long‐term estrogen deprivation in ER+ breast cancer models.

Inhibition of cyclin‐dependent kinases 12/13 using CT7439 as a treatment for colorectal cancer with CDK12 upregulation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The proposed mechanism of action for the CDK12/13 inhibitor and cyclin K degrader, CT7439. CDK12/13 inhibition interrupts transcription elongation, leading to increased DNA damage that results in cell death. This agent is a potentially novel treatment option for patients with colorectal cancer. Created in BioRender. Cyclin‐dependent kinase (CDK) 12 and

Novel Inhibitors and Activity-Based Probes Targeting Trypsin-Like Serine Proteases

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2022
The trypsin-like proteases (TLPs) play widespread and diverse roles, in a host of physiological and pathological processes including clot dissolution, extracellular matrix remodelling, infection, angiogenesis, wound healing and tumour invasion/metastasis.
