A method of tubal ligation

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1970
PIP: A variation of the Pomeroy and Madlener tubal ligation technique for cesarean or puerperal operations is described. The surgeon locates the mesosalpinx and its associated prominent arterial arcade (present after parturition). The central 1-inch portion of the tube is elevated and No. 1 silk sutures are placed on either side.

Vaginal Tubal Ligation

Southern Medical Journal, 1980
This is a review of 121 cases of interval vaginal tubal ligations done by fimbriectomy between 1971 and 1979. The technic has proved to be effective, economical, rapid, safe, and simple, and requires only a short convalescence. There have been no subsequent pregnancies or serious postoperative febrile complications.

Tubal Ligation and Pregnancy: Mechanism of Recanalization After Tubal Ligation

Fertility and Sterility, 1975
The mechanism of recanalization after resection of a segment of the fallopian tube by the Pomeroy sterilization method is discussed. At the level of resection, the epithelial lining of the fallopian tube tends to regenerate, covering the split ends and planes of cleavage of the resected surfaces and forming slitlike spaces and blind pouches lined by ...

Evaluation of Sequelae of Tubal Ligation

Fertility and Sterility, 1978
An evaluation was made of 268 patients undergoing elective sterilization with respect to the ensuing development of menorrhagia, pelvic pain, and the need for gynecologic surgery. Preoperative and follow-up postoperative questionnaires of patients undergoing laparoscopic sterilization were compared, and additional data were drawn from clinical records ...

Pyosalpinx Subsequent to Tubal Ligation

Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, 1989
A case of salpingitis with pyosalpinx subsequent to tubal ligation is described. The procedure was performed at the time of cesarean section 7 years earlier. The pyosalpinx included the distal portion of the ligated tube, with no evidence of infection in the proximal segment.

Ectopic pregnancy and tubal ligation

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1981
PIP: We have read the article "High rate of ectopic pregnancy following laparoscopic tubal coagulation failures," by McCausland (American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology 136: 95, 1980), with considerable interest. While we do not underestimate the grave clinical problems presented by unrecognized ectopic pregnancy among women with earlier tubal ...

An evaluation of tubal ligation in Switzerland

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1966
Summary Psychiatric interviews of 162 patients and questionnaire responses from 833 patients were used to evaluate the long-term outcome of postpartum tubal ligation in Zurich, Switzerland. Criteria were established for inclusion of cases in a normative sample and independent variables possibly related to outcome were isolated.

Pomeroy tubal ligation by laparoscopy and minilaparotomy

Advances in Contraception, 1994
Pomeroy tubal ligation is a widely-used method for surgical female sterilization. A laparoscopic technique of Pomeroy tubal ligation using endoloop sutures is compared with the conventional technique of Pomeroy tubal ligation by minilaparotomy.

Bilateral tubal pregnancy after puerperal tubal ligation

The Journal of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, 2000
Ectopic pregnancy is one complication of tubal sterilization. A 39-year-old multiparous woman underwent puerperal transcutaneous tubal ligation in the infraumbilical region after delivery of her fourth child. Tubal pregnancy occurred in the right and left salpinx, respectively, at different times, with laparoscopic surgery performed after each one.

Late tubal patency following tubal ligation

Fertility and Sterility, 1981
Hysterosalpingography (HSG), performed in the first 3 months after tubal ligation, has demonstrated a 1% to 2% incidence of tubal patency when initial operative errors have been excluded. In a group of 54 women, HSG was performed a mean of 4.8 years following sterilization; 9 women (16.7%) demonstrated spillage which was confirmed at laparoscopy in 7 ...
