Interpretation of the tuberculin skin test
Journal of General Internal Medicine, 1995To reinterpret epidemiologic information about the tuberculin test (purified protein derivative) in terms of modern approaches to test characteristics; to clarify why different cutpoints of induration should be used to define a positive test in different populations; and to calculate test characteristics of the intermediate-strength tuberculin skin ...

Skin changes in the tuberculin test
Tubercle, 1991This review describes the recent advances in knowledge of the nature and range of physiological changes that occur in the skin at the site of a positive tuberculin reaction. The infiltration of T-cells and monocyte/macrophages shows a marked compartmentalisation suggesting that the functions of particular cell types depend on their localisation.

Tuberculin Skin Test Conversion
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1970To the Editor.— Dr. Edwards in her reply to a question (212:1219, 1970) has stated that isoniazid chemoprophylaxis is recommended for anyone of any age whose tuberculin reaction converts from negative to positive and that appearance of a positive reaction signals the occurrence of tuberculous infection.

Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin, 1962
Tuberculin testing is used in the diagnosis of tuberculosis, in epidemiological surveys, and as an essential preliminary to BCG vaccination. It may also help to differentiate between tuberculosis and sarcoidosis which can be very similar clinically; in about 50% of patients with sarcoidosis the usual tuberculin tests are negative.
