Hearts apart: exploring sex disparity in the global and regional burden of ischemic heart disease; a systematic analysis from the global burden of disease study 1990–2021

open access: yesBMC Cardiovascular Disorders
Background Worldwide, ischemic heart disease is less prevalent in women than in men, but this gap has narrowed in recent decades. This study aims to evaluate trends and gender differences in the global burden of ischemic heart disease (IHD) across ...

Integrated Efficacy and Safety Analysis of Abrocitinib in Adolescents With Moderate‐to‐Severe Atopic Dermatitis

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
Data were included from adolescents with moderate‐to‐severe AD treated with the JAK1 inhibitor abrocitinib (200 mg/100 mg) across JADE clinical trials. Improvements in skin clearance (per EASI‐75) and itch (per PP‐NRS4) were maintained for up to 112 weeks with both abrocitinib doses.

Mycobacterium fortuitum causing infection of a biventricular pacemaker/implantable cardioverter defibrillator

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mycobacteriology, 2012
Increased utilization of cardiovascular implantable electronic devices (CIED) has seen a corresponding rise in related infections. Non-tuberculosis mycobacteria (NTM) are rarely the cause.

Perioperative Mechanical Circulatory Support for Cardiac Assistance in Thoracic Surgery: A Scoping Review

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
High‐risk cardiac patients may benefit from timely temporary mechanical circulatory support (tMCS) implantation to provide perioperative hemodynamic stabilization and circulatory support, thus enabling them to undergo life‐saving thoracic surgery. CPB: cardiopulmonary bypass; IABP: intra‐aortic balloon pump; tMCS: temporary mechanical circulatory ...

Physiological Control of Realheart Total Artificial Heart

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
This study evaluates the Realheart Total Artificial Heart's preload‐based physiological controller, which dynamically adjusts heart rate and stroke volume to mimic the heart's natural responses during sleep, rest, and exercise using a hybrid mock circulation loop of the cardiovascular system.

Proteasome Inhibitors: Harnessing Proteostasis to Combat Disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The proteasome is the central component of the main cellular protein degradation pathway. During the past four decades, the critical function of the proteasome in numerous physiological processes has been revealed, and proteasome activity has been linked
