Histone deacetylase inhibitor givinostat has ameliorative effect in the colitis model

open access: yesActa Cirúrgica Brasileira, 2022
Purpose: To investigate the effect of givinostat treatment in acetic acid-induced ulcerative colitis model in rats. Methods: Thirty male Wistar albino rats were used. Rats were randomly divided into three equal groups, and colitis was induced on 20 rats

A multi-targeted approach to suppress tumor-promoting inflammation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Cancers harbor significant genetic heterogeneity and patterns of relapse following many therapies are due to evolved resistance to treatment. While efforts have been made to combine targeted therapies, significant levels of toxicity have stymied efforts ...

Interplay of integrins and selectins in metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here we review the role of integrins and their interplay with selectins in metastasis. The efficacy of integrin‐targeted therapies may be reduced in tumors where metastasis relies heavily on selectins. In certain tumors, integrins and selectins exhibit a synergistic interaction during intraperitoneal dissemination.

Tumor necrosis factor-alpha antitumor and immunomodulatory effects [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
In the first part of this thesis we examined the possibilities of using the cytokine tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFcx) for the latter aproach. Although multiple studies have been performed regarding the antitumor action of TNFcx, it is still not ...

Early metastasis is characterized by Gr1+ cell dysregulation and is inhibited by immunomodulatory nanoparticles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer metastasis is associated with myeloid cell dysregulation and the lung‐specific accumulation of tumor‐supportive Gr1+ cells. Gr1+ cells support metastasis, in part, through a CHI3L1‐mediated mechanism, which can be targeted and inhibited with cargo‐free, polymeric nanoparticles.

Machine Learning Based Radiomics for Glial Tumor Classification and Comparison with Volumetric Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Purpose; The purpose of this study is to classify glial tumors into grade II, III and IV categories noninvasively by application of machine learning to multi-modal MRI features in comparison with volumetric analysis. Methods; We retrospectively studied 57 glioma patients with pre and postcontrast T1 weighted, T2 weighted, FLAIR images, and ADC maps ...

A Review on End-To-End Methods for Brain Tumor Segmentation and Overall Survival Prediction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Brain tumor segmentation intends to delineate tumor tissues from healthy brain tissues. The tumor tissues include necrosis, peritumoral edema, and active tumor. In contrast, healthy brain tissues include white matter, gray matter, and cerebrospinal fluid. The MRI based brain tumor segmentation research is gaining popularity as; 1. It does not irradiate

Understanding and measuring mechanical signals in the tumor stroma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review discusses cancer‐associated fibroblast subtypes and their functions, particularly in relation to extracellular matrix production, as well as the development of 3D models to study tumor stroma mechanics in vitro. Several quantitative techniques to measure tissue mechanical properties are also described, to emphasize the diagnostic and ...

Vascular network remodeling via vessel cooption, regression and growth in tumors [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Theor. Biol. 241, 903 (2006), 2005
The transformation of the regular vasculature in normal tissue into a highly inhomogeneous tumor specific capillary network is described by a theoretical model incorporating tumor growth, vessel cooption, neo-vascularization, vessel collapse and cell death. Compartmentalization of the tumor into several regions differing in vessel density, diameter and
