In this paper a new Soft Input – Soft Output (SISO) equalizer of linear complexity is developed. The algorithm can be used in the so-called Turbo Equalization scheme as a low cost solution in place of the Maximum A-Posteriori (MAP) equalization algorithm which has a prohibitive complexity for most real world applications.

Turbo equalization with Jointly Gaussian equalizer

A Jointly Gaussian (JG) equalizer is derived for turbo equalization based on an augmented real matrix representation of channel model and a Gaussian approximation of the received symbol sequence. We propose an enhanced linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) turbo equalization scheme for multipleinput multiple-output (MIMO) communication systems. The turbo equalizer employs soft interference cancellation (SIC), where tentative soft decisions of the interfering symbols are subtracted from the received samples before the LMMSE filtering.
