Influences of Flow Attack Angles and Flow Directions on Heat Transfer Rate, Pressure Loss, and Thermal Performance in Heat Exchanger Tube with V-Wavy Surface

open access: yesModelling and Simulation in Engineering, 2018
Numerical investigations on flow and heat transfer characteristics in the heat exchanger tube with the V-wavy surface are presented. The finite volume method with the SIMPLE algorithm is selected to solve the present problem.

Small scale structure of homogeneous turbulent shear flow

open access: yes, 2004
The structure of homogeneous turbulent shear flow is studied using data generated by Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) and a linear analysis for both compressible and incompressible cases.

Meta‐analysis fails to show any correlation between protein abundance and ubiquitination changes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We analyzed over 50 published proteomics datasets to explore the relationship between protein levels and ubiquitination changes across multiple experimental conditions and biological systems. Although ubiquitination is often associated with protein degradation, our analysis shows that changes in ubiquitination do not globally correlate with changes in ...

Validation of Taylor’s Frozen Hypothesis for DAS-Based Flow

open access: yesSensors
Accurate measurement of pipeline flow is of great significance for industrial and environmental monitoring. Traditional intrusive methods have the disadvantages of high cost and damage to pipeline structure, while non-intrusive techniques can circumvent ...

Multi-Scale Turbulence Injector: a new tool to generate intense homogeneous and isotropic turbulence for premixed combustion

open access: yes, 2010
Nearly homogeneous and isotropic, highly turbulent flow, generated by an original multi-scale injector is experimentally studied. This multi-scale injector is made of three perforated plates shifted in space such that the diameter of their holes and ...

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

On the Computation of Structural Vibrations Induced by a Low-speed Turbulent Flow [PDF]

open access: yes
A method for numerical evaluation of the vibrations of a cylindrical shell structure induced by a low speed external turbulent flow is discussed. The direction of flow is along the axis of revolution of the shell, and the source of excitation is the ...

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

Intercompartmental communication in senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Senescent cells experience structural changes in the plasma membrane, endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria, lysosomes, nucleus, and cytoskeleton. These alterations disrupt crosstalk among cellular compartments, impairing vesicular trafficking, contact sites, and molecular flow.
