Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Structure of Turbulent Channel Flow under Spanwise System Rotation

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2007
Direct numerical simulation of turbulent channel flow under spanwise system rotation is performed. When system rotation is imposed on turbulent Poiseuille flow, the Reynolds number decreases in one side of a channel, while it increases in the other side.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Lattice Boltzmann Method Modeling of the Evolution of Coherent Vortices and Periodic Flow in a Continuous Casting Mold

open access: yesMetals, 2022
Transient phenomena and vortex structures throughout the mold are simulated using a lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) coupled with large eddy simulation (LES) using a free surface model under steady operating conditions.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Vegetated Channel Flows: Turbulence Anisotropy at Flow–Rigid Canopy Interface

open access: yesGeosciences, 2018
This laboratory study aimed at investigating the mean and turbulent characteristics of a densely vegetated flow by testing four different submergence ratios.

Deviations from Taylor’s frozen hypothesis and scaling laws in inhomogeneous jet flows

open access: yesCommunications Physics, 2021
Turbulent flows have been the subject of intensive studies, but experimental investigations are lacking due to the need for high-frequency and high-resolution methods to probe small scale structure and time evolution.

Numerical Investigation on the Urban Heat Island Effect by Using a Porous Media Model

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
The urban heat island (UHI) effect resulted from urbanization as well as industrialization has become a major environmental problem. UHI effect aggravates global warming and endangers human health.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Numerical Study of Entropy Generation due to Coupled Laminar and Turbulent Mixed Convection and Thermal Radiation in an Enclosure Filled with a Semitransparent Medium

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2014
The effect of radiation on laminar and turbulent mixed convection heat transfer of a semitransparent medium in a square enclosure was studied numerically using the Finite Volume Method.
