Mixing in manipulated turbulence [PDF]
A new computational framework for the simulation of turbulent flow through complex objects and along irregular boundaries is presented. This is motivated by the application of metal foams in compact heat-transfer devices, or as catalyst substrates in process-engineering.

Growth of a Richtmyer-Meshkov turbulent layer after reshock [PDF]
This paper presents a numerical study of a reshocked turbulent mixing layer using high-order accurate Implicit Large-Eddy-Simulations (ILES). Existing theoretical approaches are discussed, and the theory of Youngs (detailed in Ref.

Turbulent mixing is critically important for ocean circulation, but their latitudinal distribution are poorly known. Here, the authors show that the generation mechanism of the W-shaped distribution of turbulent mixing in the tropical-extratropical ...

Numerical and Experimental Study of Turbulent Mixing Characteristics in a T-Junction System
The mixing, migration, and degradation of pollutants in sewers are the main causes for pipeline corrosion and the increased pollution scope. The clarification of the turbulent mixing characteristics in pipelines is critical for finding the source of ...

The statistical geometry of material loops in turbulence
Turbulent flows are observed in atmosphere, ocean, and technology, with turbulent mixing due to stretching and folding of material elements. The authors analyze a geometric perspective of this process and uncover statistical properties of an ensemble of ...

ABSTRACT Purpose Although not always achieved, complete chemotherapy‐induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) control is the conventional goal of CINV prophylaxis. In this two‐center, mixed‐methods study, we sought to understand the preferences of adolescent patients and family caregivers for CINV control endpoints.

Universal behaviour of entrainment due to coherent structures in turbulent shear flow
I suggest a solution to a persistent mystery in the physics of turbulent shear flows: cumulus clouds rise to towering heights, practically without entraining the ambient medium, while apparently similar turbulent jets in general lose their identity ...

Prevalence and Trajectory of Household Material Hardship Among Children With Advanced Cancer
ABSTRACT Background/Objectives Families of children with advanced cancer living in poverty experience inferior outcomes including poor parent mental health and worse child quality of life. Household material hardship (HMH: food, housing, transportation, and/or utility insecurity) is a modifiable poverty exposure—and potential intervention target—that ...

Implications of Reynolds Averaging for Reactive Tracers in Turbulent Flows
RANS simulations have been broadly used to investigate turbulence in the oceans and atmosphere. Within these environments there are a multitude of tracers undergoing reactions (e.g., phytoplankton growth, chemical reactions).
