Experimental determination of the growth rate of Richtmyer-Meshkov induced turbulent mixing after reshock [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The time evolution of the width of the turbulent mixing zone arising from the late development of Richtmyer-Meshkov instability is investigated in this work.

Aerodynamic Control and Mixing with Ramp Injection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Experiments have been conducted in the GALCIT Supersonic Shear Layer Facility (S3L) to investigate the behaviour of a flow and geometry with many features that are potentially useful for a Supersonic Combustion Ramjet (SCRAMJET) engine - a recirculation ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

A new definition of mixing and segregation: Three dimensions of a key process variable [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Although a number of definitions of mixing have been proposed in the literature, no single definition accurately and clearly describes the full range of problems in the field of industrial mixing.

CFD study of the PTS experiment in ROCOM test facility

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2020
With the aging of nuclear reactors, embrittlement of the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) steel, as a consequence of routine operations, is highly probable.

Implications of Reynolds Averaging for Reactive Tracers in Turbulent Flows

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2023
RANS simulations have been broadly used to investigate turbulence in the oceans and atmosphere. Within these environments there are a multitude of tracers undergoing reactions (e.g., phytoplankton growth, chemical reactions).

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Large-Eddy Simulations of Molecular Mixing in a Recirculating Shear Flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The flow field and mixing in an expansion-ramp geometry is studied using large-eddy simulation (LES) with subgrid scale (SGS) modeling based on the stretched-vortex model.

Numerical study of turbulent flow under different flow mixing devices in a scaled-down reactor pressure vessel model

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology
Turbulent flow in reactor pressure vessel (RPV) of pressurized water reactor (PWR) is complicated because the complex geometry in RPV. The flow rates through fuel assemblies at core inlet are strongly influenced by different designs of flow mixing ...
