On the Lateral Entrainment Instability in the Inner Core Region of Tropical Cyclones

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
Entrainment of dry moat air with low equivalent potential temperature laterally into the eyewall and rainbands is a unique turbulent process in the inner‐core region of a tropical cyclone (TC).

Lateral Variation of Tidal Mixing Asymmetry and Its Impact on the Longitudinal Sediment Transport in Turbidity Maximum Zone of Salt Wedge Estuary

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2022
The lateral bathymetry in the estuary results in different degrees of tidal mixing asymmetry, which has significant impacts on the longitudinal sediment transport by changing the temporal variation of vertical eddy diffusion.

Performance of transported PDF mixing models in a turbulent premixed flame [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2017
Abstract Modeling of premixed turbulent flames is challenging due to the effects of strong turbulence-chemistry interaction. In the transported probability density function (TPDF) methods, chemical reactions are treated exactly, while molecular mixing needs to be modeled.

Turbulent transport and mixing in the multimode narrowband Richtmyer-Meshkov instability [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics of Fluids, 2019
The mean momentum and heavy mass fraction, turbulent kinetic energy, and heavy mass fraction variance fields, as well as the budgets of their transport equations are examined several times during the evolution of a narrowband Richtmyer-Meshkov instability initiated by a Mach 1.84 shock traversing a perturbed interface separating gases with a density ...

Prevalence and Trajectory of Household Material Hardship Among Children With Advanced Cancer

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background/Objectives Families of children with advanced cancer living in poverty experience inferior outcomes including poor parent mental health and worse child quality of life. Household material hardship (HMH: food, housing, transportation, and/or utility insecurity) is a modifiable poverty exposure—and potential intervention target—that ...

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Energy transport characteristics of converging Richtmyer–Meshkov instability

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2020
In this paper, the Richtmyer–Meshkov (RM) instability in spherical and cylindrical converging geometries with a Mach number of about 1.5 is investigated by using the direct numerical simulation method.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Interplay of wind-driven processes and subsurface oscillations along the leeward coastline of a tropical reef island

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
The thermal structure of tropical reef systems is shaped by air-sea interactions, turbulent mixing, and subsurface-driven processes, yet their complex dynamics and interactions are not well understood.
