Jet in Accelerating Turbulent Crossflow with Passive Scalar Transport

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
The interaction of a turbulent, spatially developing crossflow with a transverse jet possesses several engineering and technological applications such as film cooling of turbine blades, exhaust plumes, thrust vector control, fuel injection, etc.

Transport, mixing and agglomeration of particles in turbulent flows

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2012
This paper describes methods and approaches that have been used to simulate and model the transport, mixing and agglomeration of small particles in a flowing turbulent gas. The transported particles because of their inertia are assumed not to follow the motion of the large scales of the turbulence and or the motion of the small dissipating scales of ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Turbulence and mixing variability in a microtidal estuary subject to mixed semidiurnal tidal cycles

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
Reynolds stresses and Turbulent Kinetic Energy (TKE) are instrumental in quantifying the turbulent dynamics that govern mixing and momentum transport in estuaries, factors crucial for understanding and managing estuarine circulation, water quality, and ...

Physics of Stratocumulus Top (POST): turbulent mixing across capping inversion [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2013
High spatial resolution measurements of temperature and liquid water content, accompanied by moderate-resolution measurements of humidity and turbulence, collected during the Physics of Stratocumulus Top experiment are analyzed.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Self-consistent theory of turbulent transport in the solar tachocline. III. Gravity waves

open access: yes, 2007
To understand the fundamental physical processes important for the evolution of solar rotation and distribution of chemical species, we provide theoretical predictions for particle mixing and momentum transport in the stably stratified tachocline.

Numerically determined transport laws for fingering ("thermohaline") convection in astrophysics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We present the first three-dimensional simulations of fingering convection performed in a parameter regime close to the one relevant for astrophysics, and reveal the existence of simple asymptotic scaling laws for turbulent heat and compositional ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Compressibility effects on the scalar mixing in reacting homogeneous turbulence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The compressibility and heat of reaction influence on the scalar mixing in decaying isotropic turbulence and homogeneous shear flow are examined via data generated by direct numerical simulations (DNS).
