Understanding the spacing of placodes in the eye: A comparative study across age and species

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The conjunctival placodes of the avian eye form in an intriguing and conserved sequence in a circular annulus around the cornea. These 13–16 placodes develop into papillae that are essential for inducing underlying intramembranous flat bones, known as scleral ossicles, which form an important part of the ocular skeleton.

Turing patterns and solitary structures under global control

open access: yes, 1996
Striped Turing patterns and solitary band and disk structures are constructed using a three-variable multiscale model with cubic nonlinearity and global control. The existence and stability conditions of regular structures are analysed using the equation

Dynamics of a Diffusive Predator-Prey Model with Allee Effect on Predator

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, 2013
The reaction-diffusion Holling-Tanner prey-predator model considering the Allee effect on predator, under zero-flux boundary conditions, is discussed. Some properties of the solutions, such as dissipation and persistence, are obtained.

Noise–Seeded Developmental Pattern Formation in Filamentous Cyanobacteria

open access: yesLife, 2018
Under nitrogen-poor conditions, multicellular cyanobacteria such as Anabaena sp. PCC 7120 undergo a process of differentiation, forming nearly regular, developmental patterns of individual nitrogen-fixing cells, called heterocysts, interspersed between ...

Artificial Intelligence–Driven and Digital Practices for Circular Business and Finance: Insights for Advancing Hubs for Circularity

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The emerging concept of Hubs for Circularity (H4Cs) presents an opportunity to create collaborative, self‐sustaining regional industrial ecosystems that drive circular economy transitions at scale. However, the operationalisation of H4Cs faces financial, organisational and data‐driven challenges.

Oscillatory Turing Patterns in a Simple Reaction-Diffusion System [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Turing suggested that, under certain conditions, chemicals can react and diffuse in such a way as to produce steady-state inhomogeneous spatial patterns of chemical concentrations.

A new dimension to Turing patterns

open access: yes, 2002
It is well known that simple reaction-diffusion systems can display very rich pattern formation behavior. Here we have studied two examples of such systems in three dimensions.

A Nonlinear Cross-Diffusion Model for Disease Spread: Turing Instability and Pattern Formation

open access: yesMathematics
In this article, we propose a novel nonlinear cross-diffusion framework to model the distribution of susceptible and infected individuals within their habitat using a reduced SIR model that incorporates saturated incidence and treatment rates.

Chiari I Malformation: Review and Update of Current Treatment Options

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The pathophysiology of Chiari malformation type I (CM‐I) is complex, involving structural abnormalities at the craniovertebral junction that result in herniation of the cerebellar tonsils through the foramen magnum. In this study, we aim to present and evaluate current treatment options for CM‐I, with a focus on evidence‐based clinical ...

Drifting Pattern Domains in a Reaction-Diffusion System with Nonlocal Coupling

open access: yes, 2000
Drifting pattern domains (DPDs), moving localized patches of traveling waves embedded in a stationary (Turing) pattern background and vice versa, are observed in simulations of a reaction-diffusion model with nonlocal coupling.
