Magnetic Turtle‐Like Robot with Biomimetic Movements Through Programmable Magnetic‐Assisted 3D Printing

Small
AbstractAnimals can respond quickly to environmental stimuli and generate complex deformations. The locomotion modes of turtles vary with changing environments, which inspires the design of bionic robots. Existing turtle‐like robots exhibit high movement efficiency and multi‐terrain adaptability.

Revisiting Turtles and Termites

Proceedings of the 2017 Conference on Interaction Design and Children, 2017
We present a first prototype of an open-ended interactive physical game aiming at developing children's understanding of dynamic systems in a playful and embodied way. We use a swarm user interface, Zooids, developed by Le Goc et al., made of independent self-propelled elements that move collectively and react to user input.

A turtle-like swimming robot using a smart soft composite (SSC) structure

Smart Materials and Structures, 2012
This paper describes the development of a biomimetic swimming robot based on the locomotion of a marine turtle. To realize the smooth, soft flapping motions of this type of turtle, a novel actuator was also developed, using a smart soft composite (SSC) structure that can generate bending and twisting motions in a simple, lightweight structure.

An Artificial Hormone System for Adaptable Locomotion in a Sea Turtle-Inspired Robot

2019 4th International Conference on Control and Robotics Engineering (ICCRE), 2019
There are various challenges to operate autonomous robots for a long time in outdoor real-world environments. One of the most challenging tasks is to reduce the cost of transport when locomoting over hard ground or uneven complex terrain. This paper proposes using an artificial hormone system as a mechanism which responds to external environmental ...

From the Logo Turtle to the Tiny Robot Turtle: practical and pedagogical issues

2009
This work proposes a teaching method, which attempts pedagogical utilization of educational robotics, in the form of an interdisciplinary assembly project, in the secondary/high school education. The work in question is part of a program training pupils on how to program a robot to behave as a Logo Turtle. The pupils involved construct and program that

Bio-inspired Robot Design Considering Load-Bearing and Kinematic Ontogeny of Chelonioidea Sea Turtles

2017
This work explores the physical implications of variation in fin shape and orientation that correspond to ontogenetic changes observed in sea turtles. Through the development of a bio-inspired robotic platform – CTurtle – we show that (1) these ontogenetic changes apparently occupy stable extrema for either load-bearing or high-velocity movement, and ...
