TUTA ABSOLUTA IN THE EPPO REGION: CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS

open access: yes, 2018
South American tomato moth (Tuta absoluta) is recognised to be one of the most dangerous pests of tomato in open air and protected cultivation. This pest was added to the EPPO A2 List, which includes pests with limited distribution in the EPPO region recommended for regulation. The publication describes the distribution of the pest in the world.

Climate Change and Its Effects on Pest–Pathogen Complexes

open access: yesAdvances in Agriculture, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Climate change is intensifying the complexity and severity of pest–pathogen interactions in agriculture, threatening global food security. Rising temperatures, elevated CO2 levels, shifting precipitation patterns, and extreme weather events are reshaping vector ecology, accelerating insect development, altering pathogen virulence, and disrupting plant ...

Rhythmic biosynthesis of sex pheromone modulates the calling and mating behaviors of Tuta absoluta (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae)

open access: yesNew Plant Protection, Volume 2, Issue 4, December 2025.
The six‐step “morning flight–mating” behavioral sequence in Tuta absoluta is characterized by rhythmic behavior occurring from 05:30 to 08:00, with a peak from 05:30 to 06:30. This “morning flight–mating” rhythm in T. absoluta is regulated by the rhythmic release of sex pheromones.

Epoxy tetrahydrophthalimides as potential bioactive agents: synthesis and computational study

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 12, Page 7995-8006, December 2025.
Epoxy tetrahydrophthalimides were synthesized and evaluated for phytotoxic activity. Some compounds showed greater inhibition than S‐metolachlor against Sorghum bicolor. Docking studies indicated interaction with mitogen‐activated protein kinase, suggesting it as a potential target.

Expression of two barley proteinase inhibitors in tomato promotes endogenous defensive response and enhances resistance to Tuta absoluta

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2018
Background Plants and insects have coexisted for million years and evolved a set of interactions which affect both organisms at different levels. Plants have developed various morphological and biochemical adaptations to cope with herbivores attacks ...

The expression profile of detoxifying enzyme of tomato leaf miner, Tuta absoluta Meyrik (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) to chlorpyrifos [PDF]

open access: yesArthropods, 2016
The tomato leafminer, Tuta absoluta (Meyrich) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) is an important pest of tomato crops worldwide. The persistent use of organophosphate insecticide to control this pest has led to resistance.

Vær oppmerksom på Tuta absoluta i tomat [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010

Evidence of rapid spread and establishment of Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) in semi-arid Botswana

open access: yesAgriculture & Food Security, 2018
Background Tuta absoluta (Meyrick), a major invasive pest of Solanaceous plants, was recently detected in Botswana. Abiotic and biotic factors, together with a suite of population demographic traits are likely key for species propensity and invasion ...
