Influence of varying twin-roll casting conditions on the microstructure and texture development and mechanical properties of a Mg-6.8Y-2.5Zn-0.4Zr alloy

open access: yesFrontiers in Metals and Alloys
In this study the influence of varying twin-roll casting (TRC) conditions on the microstructure, texture and mechanical properties of a Mg-6.8Y-2.5Zn-0.4Zr alloy (WZ73) was investigated. In particular the twin-roll cast speed and rolling gap were varied.

Electrically Readable Lateral Flow Assay Using Organic Transistors for Diagnostic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Electrolyte‐gated organic field‐effect transistors (EGOFETs) are integrated with lateral flow (LF) paper fluidics to create a reusable, portable, and low‐cost point‐of‐care (PoC) diagnostic test. The devices are validated for Human Immunoglobulin G detection, achieving high sensitivity (0.1 fm), selectivity, and reproducibility with rapid results in 20–

Concept of heat treatment and reversed hot strip rolling of magnesium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The production of magnesium strips, based on a twin-roll casting (TRC) and Hot Strip Rolling, has a promising application especially in automobile industry. Recently, the TRC line extends by further rolling mills to produce strips with fewer thicknesses.

Elastomeric Micro‐Balloons for Remote Control of Cerebral Blood Flow and Real‐Time In vivo Imaging of Rodent Brain Response to Hypoperfusion

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports the fabrication of MRI‐compatible elastomeric micro‐balloons via a multi‐step bubble casting process, where the monolithic elastomeric wall is selectively stiffened for reversible and controlled inflation and elasticity, depending on the target vessels for graded occlusion of cerebral arteries.
