Netherlands Twin Register: From Twins to Twin Families [PDF]
AbstractIn the late 1980s The Netherlands Twin Register (NTR) was established by recruiting young twins and multiples at birth and by approaching adolescent and young adult twins through city councils. The Adult NTR (ANTR) includes twins, their parents, siblings, spouses and their adult offspring. The number of participants in the ANTR who take part in

Twin-solute, twin-dislocation and twin-twin interactions in magnesium
Magnesium alloys have received considerable research interest due to their lightweight, high specific strength and excellent castability. However, their plastic deformation is more complicated compared to cubic materials, primarily because their low-symmetry hexagonal close-packed (hcp) crystal structure.

{332}〈113〉 Deformation Twinning in Metastable β-type Titanium Alloys
{332} deformation twinning is a unique deformation mode which can have some special features and a strong influence on the mechanical properties for metastable β-type titanium alloys.{332} deformation twinning has already got more and more attention. The ...

EQUILIBRIUM CONDITION OF RESIDUAL EDGE WEDGE-TYPE NANOTWIN IN POST-DEFORMED SOLID BODY
An equilibrium condition of residual edge wedge-type nanotwin in a deformed solid body has been derived in the paper. The condition conclusion is based on the necessity to ensure an equilibrium of force balance acting on every twinning dislocation from ...

Plastic Deformation in Laser-Induced Shock Compression of Monocrystalline Copper [PDF]
Copper monocrystals were subjected to shock compression at pressures of 10–60 GPa by a short (3 ns initial) duration laser pulse. Transmission electron microscopy revealed features consistent with previous observations of shock-compressed copper, albeit ...

Field induced spin reorientation and giant spin-lattice coupling in EuFe2As2 [PDF]
We have studied a EuFe2As2 single crystal by neutron diffraction under magnetic fields up to 3.5 T and temperatures down to 2 K. A field induced spin reorientation is observed in the presence of a magnetic field along both the a and c axes, respectively.

age of the mother, and the number of previous children born to her, for all births completely registered. Unfortunately the number of previous children does not give exactly the parity of a birth, as some of the previous children may have resulted from multiple births.

Twinning Phenomena along and beyond the Bain Path
Twinning is a phenomenon that occurs, e.g., during deformation, martensitic transformation and film growth. The present study shows that the crystallography of twinning can be described by two twinning modes along the complete Bain transformation path ...

Twinning-mediated plasticity by a novel multistage twinning mode in an Mg-Al-Gd alloy
Twinning-mediated plasticity has great potential for enhancing the strength and plasticity of Mg alloys, which is limited due to the lack of twin types. Here, we report a novel multistage twinning mode, i.e. the dominant twinning mode changes from single
