The frequency of multiple births in central Anatolia

open access: yesThe Turkish Journal of Pediatrics, 1993
The purposes of the present study were to contribute additional data regarding the frequency of multiple births in Ankara, and to reassess both the relation between maternal age and twinning, and the inter-relation between twinning and seasonality.

A genomic analysis of twinning rate and its relationship with other reproductive traits in Holstein-Friesian cattle

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science
: Twin births in dairy cattle is generally unfavorably associated with reproductive performance and calf survival in dairy cows. Genetic selection to reduce twinning rate in dairy cattle may be desirable, provided no undesirable correlated responses in ...

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

Review of Non-Classical Features of Deformation Twinning in hcp Metals and Their Description by Disconnection Mechanisms

open access: yesMetals, 2020
The study of deformation twinning has long history. However new, sometimes surprising, findings have shown that the phenomenon of deformation twinning still is not completely understood.

Erratum: Neuroblastoma in monozygotic twins – a case of probable twin to twin metastasis [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Cancer, 2001
Concordance for neuroblastoma in monozygotic twins has been reported only rarely, and the cause of the shared pathology has not been established. We describe a case of infant monozygotic twins developing tumours that were morphologically, clinically and molecularly indistinguishable, but with a delay of 6 months between times of presentation.

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

In situ observation of the atomic shuffles during the { $${{11}}\bar{{{2}}}{{1}}$$ 11 2 ¯ 1 } twinning in hexagonal close-packed rhenium

open access: yesNature Communications
Twinning, on par with dislocations, is critically required in plastic deformation of hexagonal close-packed crystals at low temperatures. In contrast to that in cubic-structured crystals, twinning in hexagonal close-packed crystals requires atomic ...

Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Evolution of deformation mechanisms and their orientation dependence in fine-grained Mg-3Gd during tension

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys
Magnesium alloys usually exhibit poor ductility attributed to their intrinsic hexagonal close-packed (hcp) structure, which fails to provide sufficient independent slip systems for homogeneous deformation.
