Twin to twin transfusion syndrome [PDF]

open access: yesTranslational Pediatrics, 2021
Twin to twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) is a common complication that typically presents in the second trimester of pregnancy in 10-15% of monochorionic twins due to net transfer of volume and hormonal substances from one twin to the other across vascular anastomoses on the placenta.

Twinning across the Developing World.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
BackgroundUntil now, little was known about the variation in incidence of twin births across developing countries, because national representative data was lacking.

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 regulates cell adhesion and membrane protrusive activity of ovarian cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

{101¯2} twinning nucleation in magnesium assisted by alternative sweeping of partial dislocations via an intermediate precursor

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys, 2020
Molecular dynamic simulation and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) characterization was employed to investigate the {101¯2} twinning mechanism in magnesium.

Twinning and grain subdivision during dynamic deformation of a Mg AZ31 sheet alloy at room temperature

open access: yes, 2011
The microstructural evolution of an AZ31 rolled sheet during dynamic deformation at strain rates of ∼103 s−1 has been investigated by electron backscatter diffraction, X-ray and neutron diffraction.

Digital twins to accelerate target identification and drug development for immune‐mediated disorders

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Digital twins integrate patient‐derived molecular and clinical data into personalised computational models that simulate disease mechanisms. They enable rapid identification and validation of therapeutic targets, prediction of drug responses, and prioritisation of candidate interventions.

Hierarchical {332}<113> twinning in a metastable β Ti-alloy showing tolerance to strain localization

open access: yesMaterials Research Letters, 2020
A hierarchical {332} twinning system is studied in a metastable beta Ti-12Mo-10Zr (wt%) alloy, which shows strong twinning-induced plasticity (TWIP) effect due to a three-level twinning mechanism.

A case of epigastric heteropagus twinning with other congenital abnormalities in a Chihuahua puppy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A two-year-old Chihuahua was presented on day 58 of pregnancy due to very marked abdominal distension. A cesarean section was performed and five normal and one clearly abnormal puppy were delivered.

Evidence of new twinning modes in magnesium questioning the shear paradigm

open access: yes, 2017
Twinning is an important deformation mode of hexagonal close-packed metals. The crystallographic theory is based on the 150-years old concept of simple shear. The habit plane of the twin is the shear plane, it is invariant.
