Mechanism of {332}<113> Twinning Formation in Cold-Rolled Ti-Nb-Ta-Zr-O Alloy

open access: yesMetals, 2018
In this study, the mechanism of {332}<113> twinning formation in cold-rolled Ti-35Nb-2Ta-3Zr-O (wt %) alloy was investigated based on the Taylor-Bishop-Hill theory.

In silico and in vitro exploration of a tyrosinase for biocatalytic production of catechols

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Tyrosinase from Ralstonia pseudosolanacearum is a promising biocatalyst for producing valuable catechols from monophenol substrates. This tyrosinase is uniquely suited to this due to its high monophenolase : diphenolase ratio. We combined in silico docking and in vivo kinetic characterisation of this tyrosinase with 11 industrially relevant monophenols,

Transmutation of zonal twinning dislocations during non-cozone {101¯1} twin-twin interaction in magnesium

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys
Theoretically, a twinning dislocation must stay on the twinning plane which is the first invariant plane of a twinning mode, because the glide of twinning dislocation linearly transforms the parent lattice to the twin lattice.

A Prospective Study of Individuals at Risk of Multiple Sclerosis Informs the Design of Primary Prevention Studies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective In multiple sclerosis, the optimal time for deploying a therapeutic intervention is before the central nervous system is damaged; given the success of trials treating the earliest stage of MS, the radiologically isolated syndrome, developing primary prevention strategies is an important next challenge.

Re‐Purposing Sapropterin (Kuvan) for ACTA2‐Related Multisystemic Smooth Muscle Dysfunction Syndrome: A Translational Mechanistic and First‐In‐Human Therapeutic Report

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Multisystemic smooth muscle dysfunction syndrome (MSMDS) is an ultra‐rare, ACTA2‐related disorder characterized by severe cerebrovascular disease, aortic aneurysms, and smooth muscle dysfunction. Using molecular dynamics simulations and in silico drug screening, we identified that sapropterin dihydrochloride (Kuvan) is a candidate capable of ...

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

A constitutive model incorporating the interplay of dynamic recrystallization and twinning during hot deformation of AZ31 magnesium alloy

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Dynamic recrystallization (DRX) and deformation twinning play a pivotal role in stress partitioning during hot deformation of magnesium alloy. However, the influence of twinning on stress is diverse, and the interaction between DRX and twinning is ...

Dislocation mechanisms and 3D twin architectures generate exceptional strength-ductility-toughness combination in CrCoNi medium-entropy alloy

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Materials that show twinning-induced plasticity can offer unusual combinations of strength and ductility. Here, authors study deformation twinning and dislocation behaviour in a medium-entropy alloy CrCoNi and find a three-dimensional (3D) hierarchical ...

Study of work-hardening behavior of high manganese steel during compression

open access: yesMaterials Research Express, 2022
High manganese steels are well used for their excellent hardening properties. In this study, we investigate the mechanical responses of high manganese steel in a compressed condition. During compression deformation, twin crystal is first generated inside
