Geographic Tongue in Monozygotic Twins

open access: yesJOURNAL OF CLINICAL AND DIAGNOSTIC RESEARCH, 2014
This article discusses a case of 5-year-old girl monozygotic twins who were suffering from geographic tongue (GT), a benign inflammatory disorder of the tongue which is characterized by circinate, irregular erythematous lesions on the dorsum and lateral borders of the tongue caused by loss of filiform papillae of the tongue epithelium.

Autistic traits in childhood and post‐traumatic stress disorder as young adults: a cohort study

open access: yesJournal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, EarlyView.
Background Despite the higher prevalence of childhood traumatic experiences and post‐traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in autistic adults, research on trauma‐related psychopathology and autistic traits in young people is lacking. This study examined if high autistic traits in childhood predispose individuals to traumatic experiences, the development of ...

Examining the association between cognitive ability and emotional problems across childhood using a genetically informative design: could there be a causal relationship?

open access: yesJournal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, EarlyView.
Background Emotional problems co‐occur with difficulties in verbal and nonverbal cognitive ability, yet the pathways underlying their association remain poorly understood: It is unclear whether effects may be causal, and to what extent they may run from cognition to emotion, or vice versa.

Monozygotic twins discordant for low-level mosaic trisomy 17 at amniocentesis in a pregnancy with a favorable outcome and a literature review of heterokaryotypic monozygotic twins at amniocentesis

open access: yesTaiwanese Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2020
Objective: We present a set of twins discordant for low-level mosaic trisomy 17 at amniocentesis, and we review the literature of heterokaryotypic monozygotic twins at amniocentesis.

A Case of Sirenomelia Associated with Hypoplastic Left Heart with a Healthy Co-Twin: A Rare Entity

open access: yesCase Reports in Pediatrics, 2018
Sirenomelia is a rare developmental malformation and is incompatible to life. The incidence of sirenomelia, as recorded in the literature, is estimated to be approximately between 1.5 and 4.2 per 1,00,000 births.

Different sensory dimensions in infancy are associated with separable etiological influences and with autistic traits in toddlerhood. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Child Psychol Psychiatry
Background Infants vary significantly in the way they process and respond to sensory stimuli, and altered sensory processing has been reported among infants later diagnosed with autism. Previous work with adolescents and adults suggests that variability in sensory processing may have a strong genetic basis.

Predicting adolescent disordered eating and behaviours: exploring environmental moderators of polygenic risk

open access: yesJournal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, EarlyView.
Background Both genetic and environmental factors contribute to the risk of developing disordered eating, with twin studies demonstrating environmental factors moderate genetic susceptibility. To date, gene–environment interactions leveraging polygenic risk scores (PRS) have not been studied in disordered eating phenotypes beyond anorexia nervosa (AN).

Generation and characterization of human-derived iPSC lines from three pairs of monozygotic twins discordant for Parkinson's disease

open access: yesStem Cell Research, 2019
Despite a genetic component in the development of Parkinson’s disease (PD), monozygotic twin pairs often display discordance for PD. Here, we describe the generation of six human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) lines from dermal fibroblasts of three

Two's company: Monozygotic twinning in the small‐spotted catshark (Scyliorhinus canicula)

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Developmental abnormalities in elasmobranchs (sharks and rays) are rarely documented, with reported cases primarily involving fin or cranial deformities. Monozygotic twinning, the formation of identical twins from a single zygote, is particularly rare in these species and has been observed overwhelmingly in viviparous elasmobranchs.

Overstated association between adolescent physical fitness and adulthood depression risk due to familial factors

open access: yesJournal of Internal Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Examine the association between adolescent cardiorespiratory fitness and future risk of depression and dispensation of antidepressants, including the role of familial confounding. Methods A cohort study with sibling‐comparisons based on Swedish men who participated in mandatory military conscription examinations from 1972 to 1995 ...
