Twist grain boundaries in cubic surfactant phases [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Chemical Physics, 2009
Twist grain boundaries in bicontinuous cubic surfactant phases are studied by employing a Ginzburg–Landau model of ternary amphiphilic systems. Calculations are performed on a discrete real-space lattice with periodic boundary conditions for the lamellar Lα, gyroid G, diamond D, and the Schwarz P phases for various twist angles.

Equilibrium phase diagram and thermal responses of charged DNA-virus rod-suspensions at low ionic strengths

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
The collective behavior of DNA is important for exploring new types of bacteria in the means of detection, which is greatly interested in the understanding of interactions between DNAs in living systems.

Phase diagrams of charged colloidal rods: can a uniaxial charge distribution break chiral symmetry? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We construct phase diagrams for charged rodlike colloids within the second-virial approximation as a function of rod concentration, salt concentration, and colloidal charge.

Statistical Characteristics of a Twisted Anisotropic Gaussian Schell-Model Beam in Turbulent Ocean

open access: yesPhotonics, 2020
The analytical expression of the cross-spectral density function of a twisted anisotropic Gaussian Schell-model (TAGSM) beam transmitting in turbulent ocean is derived by applying a tensor method.

Localization Detection Based on Quantum Dynamics

open access: yesEntropy, 2022
Detecting many-body localization (MBL) typically requires the calculation of high-energy eigenstates using numerical approaches. This study investigates methods that assume the use of a quantum device to detect disorder-induced localization.

Bifurcation analysis of the twist-Freedericksz transition in a nematic liquid-crystal cell with pre-twist boundary conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Motivated by a recent investigation of Millar and McKay [Mol. Cryst. Liq. Cryst., 435, 277/[937]-286/[946] (2005)], we study the magnetic field twist-Fr´eedericksz transition for a nematic liquid crystal of positive diamagnetic anisotropy with strong ...

Optical twists in phase and amplitude

open access: yesOptics Express, 2011
Light beams with helical phase profile correspond to photons having orbital angular momentum (OAM). A Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) beam is an example where its helical phase sets a phase-singularity at the optical axis and forms a ring-shaped transverse amplitude profile.

A generalized density-modulated twist-splay-bend phase of banana-shaped particles

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
The so-called twist-bend and splay-bend nematic liquid crystal phases are important concepts for studying bent-core mesogens. Chiappini et al. use a theory/simulation approach to suggest that the transition proceed via a twist-splay-bend phase which may ...

A fibre forming smectic twist-bent liquid crystalline phase [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We demonstrate the nanostructure and filament formation of a novel liquid crystal phase of a dimeric mesogen below the twist–bend nematic phase. The new fibre-forming phase is distinguished by a short-correlated smectic order combined with an additional ...

Nanoparticle-induced twist-grain boundary phase

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2014
By means of high-resolution ac calorimetry and polarizing optical microscopy, it is demonstrated that surface-functionalized spherical CdSSe nanoparticles induce a twist-grain boundary phase when dispersed in a chiral liquid crystal. These nanoparticles can effectively stabilize the one-dimensional lattice of screw dislocations, thus establishing the ...
