Optical twists in phase and amplitude
Light beams with helical phase profile correspond to photons having orbital angular momentum (OAM). A Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) beam is an example where its helical phase sets a phase-singularity at the optical axis and forms a ring-shaped transverse amplitude profile.

Nematic twist-bend phases (NTB) are new types of nematic liquid crystalline phases with attractive properties for future electro-optic applications. However, most of these states are monotropic or are stable only in a narrow high temperature range.

Order and Frustration in Chiral Liquid Crystals [PDF]
This paper reviews the complex ordered structures induced by chirality in liquid crystals. In general, chirality favors a twist in the orientation of liquid-crystal molecules. In some cases, as in the cholesteric phase, this favored twist can be achieved

Twist Elasticity and Anchoring in a Lamellar Nematic Phase [PDF]
Electro-optic measurements were performed on a lamellar nematic phase in which the mesogenic moieties lie in lamellae that are separated by partially perfluorinated side groups. The twist elastic constant K22, viscosity gamma(1), and the quadratic and quartic anchoring strength coefficients are reported.

Kink oscillations in magnetic tubes with twisted annulus [PDF]
Aims.We study kink waves in a magnetic flux tube modelled as a straight core surrounded by a magnetically twisted annulus, both embedded in a straight ambient external field, and derive the dispersion relation for this configuration.

A 6.5 GHz-11.5 GHz source using a grid amplifier with a twist reflector [PDF]
The authors have constructed and tested an oscillator using a grid amplifier with external feedback from a twist reflector. The twist reflector serves two functions; it changes the output polarization to match the input, and its position sets the ...

Phase diagrams of charged colloidal rods: can a uniaxial charge distribution break chiral symmetry? [PDF]
We construct phase diagrams for charged rodlike colloids within the second-virial approximation as a function of rod concentration, salt concentration, and colloidal charge.

Localization Detection Based on Quantum Dynamics
Detecting many-body localization (MBL) typically requires the calculation of high-energy eigenstates using numerical approaches. This study investigates methods that assume the use of a quantum device to detect disorder-induced localization.
