A confirmation of a conjecture on Feldman’s two-armed bandit problem

Journal of Applied Probability, 2023
AbstractThe myopic strategy is one of the most important strategies when studying bandit problems. In 2018, Nouiehed and Ross put forward a conjecture about Feldman’s bandit problem (J. Appl. Prob. (2018) 55, 318–324). They proposed that for Bernoulli two-armed bandit problems, the myopic strategy stochastically maximizes the number of wins.

A Bayesian two‐armed bandit model

Applied Stochastic Models in Business and Industry, 2018
AbstractA two‐armed bandit model using a Bayesian approach is formulated and investigated in this paper with the goal of maximizing the value of a certain criterion of optimality. The bandit model illustrates the trade‐off between exploration and exploitation, where exploration means acquiring scientific acknowledge for better‐informed decisions at ...

A two armed bandit type problem

International Journal of Game Theory, 2003
The authors consider optimality of fictitious play strategies in repeated two player games. They show that these strategies are closed with respect to the best response for the case of two choices. This results is extended for the case of more choices under a certain integrability type condition.

On the Bernoulli two-armed bandit problem

Mathematische Operationsforschung und Statistik. Series Optimization, 1981
The paper is initially concerned with monotonic properties of the posterior success probabilities when the prior success probabilities are distributed according to an arbitrary joint distribution function (Bayesian approach). Next a dynamic programming model is proposed and monotonic properties of the optimal expected cumulative discounted reward are ...

Estimation of the odds ratio in the two-armed bandit problem

Biometrika, 1981
SUMMARY Asymptotically optimal sequential procedures are proposed for fixed width interval and for point estimation of the log odds ratio for two Bernoulli populations. The costs of observations can be different for the two populations and possibly dependent on the success probabilities.
