Improving multi-talker binaural DOA estimation by combining periodicity and spatial features in convolutional neural networks

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Audio, Speech, and Music Processing
Deep neural network-based direction of arrival (DOA) estimation systems often rely on spatial features as input to learn a mapping for estimating the DOA of multiple talkers.

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

Estimating and explaining efficiency in a multilevel setting: A robust two-stage approach [PDF]

open access: yes
Various applications require multilevel settings (e.g., for estimating fixed and random effects). However, due to the curse of dimensionality, the literature on non-parametric efficiency analysis did not yet explore the estimation of performance drivers ...

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

A two-stage randomized response technique for simultaneous estimation of sensitivity and truthfulness

open access: yesScientific Reports
Privacy protection is a critical concern when dealing with sensitive survey questions. Conventional randomized response (RR) models frequently fall short in providing respondents with adequate secrecy when assessing important parameters like the ...

A simple two-stage carrier-phase estimation algorithm for 32-QAM coherent optical communication systems

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics
The combination of high-order modulation formats and linewidth-tolerant carrier phase estimation (CPE) can effectively improve spectrum efficiency and relax the limitation of laser linewidth.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Exact Local Whittle Estimation of Fractionally Cointegrated Systems [PDF]

open access: yes
Semiparametric estimation of a bivariate fractionally cointegrated system is considered. We propose a two-step procedure that accommodates both (asymptotically) stationary (d =1/2) stochastic trend and/or equilibrium error. A tapered version of the local

Molecular cancer prevention: Intercepting disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Oncological practice must evolve, from treating established tumours to proactive cancer interception before clinical manifestation. This will require mechanistic insight into tumour initiation, validated biomarkers of early disease development and redesigned clinical trials, enabling cancer interception to become a core pillar of oncology with the ...

Habits, Complementarities and Heterogenenity in Alcohol and Tobacco Demand: A Multivariate Dynamic Model [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper we test the existence of rational habit formation in a multivariate model for alcohol and tobacco consumption. The theoretical framework, based on a dynamic adjustment cost model with forward-looking behaviour, is enhanced to include the ...
