On the implementation of stratified two-stage simple random sampling without replacement, with possible collapsed strata

open access: yesMethodsX
Two-stage stratified sampling is a complex design that involves nested sampling units and stratification. This complexity increases when the strata have too few sampled units for variance estimation, necessitating the use of collapsed strata, where ...

Design effects in the analysis of longitudinal survey data

open access: yes, 2005
The design effect measures the inflation of the sampling variance of an estimator as a result of the use of a complex sampling scheme. It is usually measured relative to the variance of the estimator under simple random sampling.

Application of generalized sharpening technique for two-stage comb decimator filter design [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper introduces the generalized sharpening technique to improve the magnitude characteristics of comb decimation filter in passband as well in the folding bands. To this end we design two-stage comb filter.

Sampling-Based Algorithms for Two-Stage Stochastic Programs and Applications

open access: yes, 2021
In this dissertation, we present novel sampling-based algorithms for solving two-stage stochastic programming problems. Sampling-based methods provide an efficient approach to solving large-scale stochastic programs where uncertainty is possibly defined ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Advanced Credit Card Fraud Detection: An Ensemble Learning Using Random Under Sampling and Two-Stage Thresholding

open access: yesIEEE Access
The increase of Credit Card (CC) fraud in recent years requires the development of fraud detection systems that are both efficient and robust. This paper explored the utilization of machine learning models, with a particular emphasis on ensemble methods,

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

New Techniques for Estimating Finite Population Variance Using Ranks of Auxiliary Variable in Two-Stage Sampling

open access: yesMathematics
This article presents a new set of estimators designed to estimate the finite population variance of a study variable in two-phase sampling. These estimators utilize the information about extreme values and ranks of an auxiliary variable. Through a first-
