Experimental results giving information about the mechanisms of the two way memory effect are presented. It is shown that local martensite stabilization and true plastic deformations have to be considered as undesirable side-effects of training.

Temperature memory effect in two-way shape memory TiNi and TiNiCu springs [PDF]
An incomplete thermal cycle upon heating in a shape memory alloy (arrested at a temperature between As and Af) induced a kinetic stop in the next complete thermal cycle. The kinetic stop temperature is closely related to the previous arrested temperature. This phenomenon is named temperature memory effect (TME).

A new comparatively convenient training program for two-way shape memory effect (TWSME) in CuZnAl alloy was introduced. The internal friction, frequency, zero point shift of torsion pendulum and electric resistance were synchronistically measured during TWSME cycle.
