Cul5-type Ubiquitin Ligase KLHDC1 Contributes to the Elimination of Truncated SELENOS Produced by Failed UGA/Sec Decoding

open access: yesiScience, 2020
Summary: The UGA codon signals protein translation termination, but it can also be translated into selenocysteine (Sec, U) to produce selenocysteine-containing proteins (selenoproteins) by dedicated machinery.

PENINGKATAN HASIL BELAJAR BIOLOGI SISWA MELALUI PENERAPAN MODEL PEMBELAJARAN KOOPERATIF TIPE GROUP INVESTIGATION

open access: yesJurnal BIOEDUIN, 2018
Investigation group is a type of cooperative learning which stresses on the participation, activeness, and involves students in planning, determining the topic as well as the way to investigate. An investigation group learing type also guides students to

Plant Single Cell Type Systems Biology

open access: yes, 2016
The phenotype of a plant in response to a stress condition is the reflection of the molecular responses in different cell-types composing the plant. The multicellular complexity represents a challenge when accessing specific responses of each cell or cell type composing the plant.

Bounds for Tur\'anians of modified Bessel functions

open access: yes, 2013
Motivated by some applications in applied mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics and engineering sciences, new tight Tur\'an type inequalities for modified Bessel functions of the first and second kind are deduced.

STAT3 expression is reduced in cardiac pericytes in HFpEF and its loss reduces cellular adhesion and induces pericyte senescence

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for half of the heart failure cases. It is characterised by microvascular dysfunction, associated with reduced pericyte coverage and diminished STAT3 expression in pericytes. Loss of STAT3 impairs pericyte adhesion, promotes senescence, and activates a pro‐fibrotic gene program.

Non-equilibrium statistical physics, transitory epigenetic landscapes, and cell fate decision dynamics [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Statistical physics provides a useful perspective for the analysis of many complex systems; it allows us to relate microscopic fluctuations to macroscopic observations. Developmental biology, but also cell biology more generally, are examples where apparently robust behaviour emerges from highly complex and stochastic sub-cellular processes.

A New Hierarchical Redundancy Eliminated Tree Augmented Naive Bayes Classifier for Coping with Gene Ontology-based Features [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The Tree Augmented Naive Bayes classifier is a type of probabilistic graphical model that can represent some feature dependencies. In this work, we propose a Hierarchical Redundancy Eliminated Tree Augmented Naive Bayes (HRE-TAN) algorithm, which ...

Ion channel function of polycystin‐2/polycystin‐1 heteromer revealed by structure‐guided mutagenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutations in polycystin‐1 (PC1) or polycystin‐2 (PC2) cause autosomal‐dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). We generated a novel gain‐of‐function PC2/PC1 heteromeric ion channel by mutating pore‐blocking residues. Moreover, we demonstrated that PC2 will preferentially assemble with PC1 to form heteromeric complexes when PC1 is co‐expressed ...

PENGEMBANGAN MEDIA PEMBELAJARAN VIDEO ANIMASI STOP MOTION UNTUK PEMBELAJARAN BIOLOGI DENGAN APLIKASI PICPAC

open access: yesJurnal BIOEDUIN, 2018
Based on the observation, the problem in Biology learning is the students are less enthusiastic about Biology lesson because of too many theories and topics that must be memorized and remembered so its decrease their learning interest.

The types of homology and their significance for evolutionary biology and phylogenetics [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Evolutionary Biology, 1992
AbstractThis paper comments on recently revived discussion about the most adequate definition of homology. Homologues are considered as similarities of complex structures or patterns which are based on a continuity of biological information or instruction. Dependent on the level of comparison four types of homology are defined: (1) Iterative ( = serial
