The intracellular domain of TLR2 is capable of high‐affinity Zn binding: possible outcomes for the receptor activation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Toll‐like receptors (TLRs) are important in the innate immune system. This study explores the zinc‐binding ability of the TLR2 TIR domain (TLR2TIR). We found that TLR2TIR binds zinc with nanomolar affinity through its cysteine residues. Two of them, C673 and C713, are vital for receptor activation, indicating that zinc may play a role in initiating ...

The common pathophysiologic threads between Asian Indian diabetic’s ‘Thin Fat Phenotype’ and partial lipodystrophy: the peripheral adipose tissue transcriptomic evidences

open access: yesAdipocyte, 2020
T2D is a complex disease with poorly understood mechanisms. In Asian Indians, it is associated with “thin fat” phenotype which resembles with partial lipodystrophy. We hypothesized that disturbed expression of lipodystrophy genes might play a role in T2D

Identification of Key Proteins Involved in Axon Guidance Related Disorders: A Systems Biology Approach [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Axon guidance is a crucial process for growth of the central and peripheral nervous systems. In this study, 3 axon guidance related disorders, namely- Duane Retraction Syndrome (DRS) , Horizontal Gaze Palsy with Progressive Scoliosis (HGPPS) and Congenital fibrosis of the extraocular muscles type 3 (CFEOM3) were studied using various Systems Biology ...

Natural intelligence and anthropic reasoning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
This paper aims to justify the concept of natural intelligence, the type of intelligence wider than human intelligence and its derivative, AI. I will argue that the process of life is a cognitive process and that organisms, from bacteria to animals, are cognitive agents.

Construction of minimal DFAs from biological motifs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Deterministic finite automata (DFAs) are constructed for various purposes in computational biology. Little attention, however, has been given to the efficient construction of minimal DFAs.

Refining the NaV1.7 pharmacophore of a class of venom‐derived peptide inhibitors via a combination of in silico screening and rational engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Venom peptides have shown promise in treating pain. Our study uses computer screening to identify a peptide that targets a sodium channel (NaV1.7) linked to chronic pain. We produced the peptide in the laboratory and refined its design, advancing the search for innovative pain therapies.

Self-regulating genes. Exact steady state solution by using Poisson Representation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Systems biology studies the structure and behavior of complex gene regulatory networks. One of its aims is to develop a quantitative understanding of the modular components that constitute such networks. The self-regulating gene is a type of auto regulatory genetic modules which appears in over 40% of known transcription factors in E. coli.
