Studies of type I collagen in osteogenesis imperfecta

The Journal of Pediatrics, 1990
We used the results of skin fibroblast type I collagen analysis to improve the accuracy of diagnosis and genetic counseling for six patients with osteogenesis imperfecta. The fibroblasts of two patients with osteogenesis imperfecta type I synthesized a reduced quantity of qualitatively normal type I procollagen.

Fibromodulin Interactions with Type I and II Collagens

Connective Tissue Research, 2007
Fibromodulin is a keratan-sulfate small leucine-rich proteoglycan (SLRP) regulating collagen I and II fibril formation. In vivo studies suggest that, alongside decorin, fibromodulin plays an important role in the maintenance of mature tissues. To characterize fibromodulin/decorin differences in binding to type I and II collagen, we tested the collagen ...

Halofuginone: An inhibitor of collagen type I synthesis

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1993
The effect of halofuginone--a plant alkaloid used as a coccidiostat in birds--on collagen metabolism was studied in various avian and mammalian cell cultures. In avian skin fibroblasts halofuginone attenuated the incorporation of [3H]proline into collagenase-digestible proteins (CDP) at concentrations as low as 10(-11) M, without affecting production ...

Regulation of Type I Collagen Genes Expression

International Reviews of Immunology, 1995
Type I collagen, the most abundant protein of the body, is preferentially synthesized in bone, dermis, and tendons by two cell types, the osteoblast and the fibroblast. The expression of type I collagen is increased in the various forms of fibrosis such as lung, liver, bone marrow fibrosis and scleroderma.

Collagen Type I: A Substrate and a Signal for Invasion

2000
The phenomenon termed invasion is observed in a large variety of cells and organisms from viruses to vertebrate cells (Leroy et al. 1997). Invasion implicates entry of foreign cells into a host by attachment to the extracellular matrix (ECM) components, proteolysis of these components, and subsequently migration through the ECM defects (Bruyneel and ...

UV Spectroscopic Characterization of Type I Collagen

Collagen and Related Research, 1988
The near UV absorption of type I collagen can be used to measure its tyrosine content and, therefore, the integrity of the nonhelical telopeptides. The far UV absorption of the protein can be used to determine its concentration and to monitor its thermal denaturation. The concentration, when determined along with low speed centrifugation to precipitate
