Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

The case-only design is a powerful approach to detect interactions but should be used with caution

open access: yesBMC Genomics
Background The case-only design is a powerful approach to identify gene $$\times$$ × gene and gene $$\times$$ × environment interactions for complex traits.

Noise Enhancement for Weighted Sum of Type I and II Error Probabilities with Constraints

open access: yesEntropy, 2017
In this paper, the noise-enhanced detection problem is investigated for the binary hypothesis-testing. The optimal additive noise is determined according to a criterion proposed by DeGroot and Schervish (2011), which aims to minimize the weighted sum of ...

Stimulator of interferon genes agonist augmented antitumor immunity of osimertinib in Egfr‐mutated lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.

How to keep the Type I Error Rate in ANOVA if Variances are Heteroscedastic

open access: yesAustrian Journal of Statistics, 2016
One essential prerequisite to ANOVA is homogeneity of variances in underlying populations. Violating this assumption may lead to an increased type I error rate. The reason for this undesirable effect is due to the calculation of the corresponding F-value.

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.

Alternative Nonparametric Test and Sample Size Procedures for the Comparison of Several Location Shifts

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Theory and Applications (JSTA)
The Kruskal–Wallis test is widely recommended as a nonparametric counterpart to the ANOVA F procedure for comparing more than two treatments. However, the associated asymptotic chi-square distribution tends to be conservative, especially for small sample
