Identification of type VI secretion systems in Moritella viscosa

Veterinary Microbiology, 2012
The study describes the identification of type VI secretion systems (T6SSs) in Moritella viscosa, the aetiological agent of winter ulcer disease. Despite the availability of commercial vaccines, M. viscosa causes significant financial losses in salmonid farming.

The type VI secretion system and associated effector proteins

Nature Reviews Microbiology
Bacteria have evolved a myriad of antibacterial weapons to engage in interbacterial conflicts. Among these, many Gram-negative bacteria use type VI secretion systems (T6SSs), which are contractile toxin delivery systems, to eliminate or suppress competitors in a contact-dependent manner.

Expression, secretion and bactericidal activity of type VI secretion system in Vibrio anguillarum

Archives of Microbiology, 2016
The type VI secretion system (T6SS) was recently shown to modulate quorum sensing and the stress response in Vibrio anguillarum serotype O1 strain NB10. It is not known whether there is a functionally active T6SS in other serotypes of V. anguillarum. Here, homologues to T6SS cluster VtsEFGH and hemolysin-coregulated protein (Hcp)-encoding genes were ...

Dissection of a type VI secretion system in Edwardsiella tarda

Molecular Microbiology, 2007
SummaryBacterial pathogens use different protein secretion systems to deliver virulence factors. Recently, a novel secretion system was discovered in several Gram‐negative bacterial pathogens, and was designated as the type VI secretion system (T6SS). In Edwardsiella tarda, a partial E. tardavirulent protein (EVP) gene cluster was implicated in protein

The Type VI secretion system – a widespread and versatile cell targeting system

Research in Microbiology, 2013
The Type VI secretion system (T6SS) is the most recently described of the Gram-negative bacterial secretion systems and is widely distributed amongst diverse species. T6SSs are currently believed to be complex molecular machines which inject effector proteins into target cells and which incorporate a bacteriophage-like cell-puncturing device.

Type VI secretion system effectors
