Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Documenting software systems using types
AbstractWe show how hypertext-based program understanding tools can achieve new levels of abstraction by using inferred type information for cases where the subject software system is written in a weakly typed language. We propose TypeExplorer, a tool for browsing Cobol legacy systems based on these types. The paper addresses (1) how types, an invented

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Distinguishing pattern-types in printed documents [PDF]
Reading machines and other devices have helped a lot in integrating blind persons into society. Simultaneously the progress and widespread use of desktop-publishing systems lead to documents that are hard to recognise for current reading machines. Nevertheless, access to printed documents is required by most blind persons.

Semantic Flooding: Semantic Search across Distributed Lightweight Ontologies [PDF]
Lightweight ontologies are trees where links between nodes codify the fact that a node lower in the hierarchy describes a topic (and contains documents about this topic) which is more specific than the topic of the node one level above. In turn, multiple

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Electronic evidence in Russian criminal proceedings: problematic aspects
The article discusses some problematic aspects related to the use of electronic evidence in evidence. The ambiguity of scientists’ approaches to the question of what place this type of evidence occupies in the evidence system available in the criminal ...
