Inherited disorders of tyrosine catabolism have been identified at five of the six enzymatic steps. Under normal conditions tyrosine concentrations are regulated by its synthetic enzyme (phenylalanine hydroxylase) and especially the first catabolic enzyme (tyrosine aminotransferase).
