Thermal mixing effect and heat transfer in U-shaped notch on the mechanical seal face

, 2020
A three-dimensional thermohydrodynamic (THD) model of a notched mechanical seal is developed based on the commercial software ANSYS Fluent. The flow behavior of hot and cold fluid in and around the notch, namely, the thermal mixing effect, is detailly ...

Prediction on fatigue life of U‐notched PMMA plate

Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures, 2016
AbstractIn this paper, fatigue life prediction of U‐notched polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) plate is numerically investigated based on the combination of fatigue damage mechanism and fatigue crack propagation mechanism. First, strength and stiffness degeneration criterions during the fatigue process are established on the basis of nonlinear progressive ...

The acoustics of cavitation in spool valve with U-notches

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part G: Journal of Aerospace Engineering, 2011
Spiral cavity produced by the swirling flow is observed in spool valve with U-notches. Individual bubbles with similar grown-up size appear in the wake of the fixed cavity. Consecutive bubble collapse produces frequency peak in the spectra, which decreases with the cavitation number.

Geometry effects on mode I brittle fracture in U‐notched specimens

Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures, 2020
AbstractThe effects of geometrical constraints on the fracture initiation location and the fracture strength are evaluated in U‐notched specimens using theoretical and experimental analyses. It is proven that high geometrical constraints in pure mode I loading of geometrically symmetric U‐notched specimens can result in occurrence of the maximum ...

Improvement in notch band characteristics of a hexagonal super wideband antenna by interfering back radiation out of phase with front radiation using frequency selective surface

International Journal of Communication Systems
A band‐notched super wideband (SWB) planar monopole antenna with improved notch characteristics is proposed in this article. A hexagonal SWB antenna operating in the frequency range from 3.04 to 36 GHz is initially designed on Arlon substrate.

Plastic instability in U-notched bend specimens of spheroidized AIS11090 steel

Metallurgical Transactions A, 1982
Studies on U-notched bend specimens of spheroidized AISI 1090 steel revealed that plastic instability initiated as a surface roughening in the notch root. The surface waviness preceded subsurface void formation and appeared at a strain in fair agreement with predictions from plasticity theory.

Dual Band Notch Planar Patch Antenna for UWB Applications

2020 3rd International Conference on Computing, Mathematics and Engineering Technologies (iCoMET), 2020
A novel microstrip patch antenna with dual band notch operation and coplanar waveguide feed (CPW) is proposed in this paper. The initial antenna design efficiently covers the ultra-wideband (UWB) range from 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz with ...

Fracture Assessment of U-Notched Graphite Plates Under Tension

International Journal of Fracture, 2013
The experimentally obtained tensile load-bearing capacity of fifteen U-notched polycrystalline graphite plates reported in literature was theoretically estimated by means of two well-known brittle fracture models, namely the mean stress (MS) and the point stress (PS) criteria.
