Elasto-Plastic Finite Element Analysis of Isotropic Plates With U-Notches
Reliability, Stress Analysis, and Failure Prevention Issues in Fastening and Joining, Composite and Smart Structures, Numerical and FEA Methods, and Risk Minimization, 1996Abstract Elasto-plastic stress analysis of the U-notched isotropic steel plates (SAE 1060) has been carried out using the finite element method (FEM) Isoparametric rectangular elements with four nodes have been employed and the Lagrange polynomial has been used as interpolation function Mechanical properties and yield strength of the U ...

The effective T-stress estimation and crack paths emanating from U-notches
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2010The concept of the T-stress as a local constraint factor has been extended to U-notch tip stress distribution as the effective T-stress. The effective T-stress has been estimated as the average value of the T-stress in the region corresponding to the effective (characteristic) distance ahead of the notch tip. The T-stress is evaluated by finite element

Ductile fracture of U-notched bend specimens of spheroidized AISI 1095 steel
Metallurgical Transactions A, 1978Ductile fracture was studied in U-notched, bend specimens of spheroidized AISI 1095 steel. The role of microstructure in void initiation and growth was investigated. The stress and strain states were controlled by varying the acuity of the notch and the bending load.

Brittle failure criteria for components containing U-notches under Mode I loading
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2018Abstract In this study, a modified fracture criterion which satisfies the necessary stress and energy conditions is proposed for brittle materials. The criterion is based on the assumption that fracture is generated by the initiation of a crack with a finite length l cm . In the proposed criterion, it is assumed that the crack length

Assessment of UMTS and Averaged SED Fracture Criteria for U-Notched Specimens
Key Engineering Materials, 2013A set of mixed-mode I/II fracture tests was carried out on a polyurethane material. Using a single edge notched bend (SENB) type specimen, containing straight and respectively inclined U notches, the full range from pure mode I to dominant mode II was achieved. Two different fracture criteria were employed for the prediction of the fracture conditions:

Variable morphology of the suprascapular notch: A proposal for classification in Chinese population.
Annals of Anatomy, 2019BACKGROUND The variable of the suprascapular notch (SSN) is a common cause in suprascapular nerve (SN) entrapment. Hence, knowledge of SSN variations may be predictive valuable for the predisposition to compression of SN.

Safety Factor of a U-Notched Plate
2003Figure 1 shows a rectangular aluminium plate containing a single U-notch. The plate is subjected to cyclic loading at a stress ratio of R=0. The fatigue limit (at R=0) is 220 MPa. Determine the maximum peak stress for the plate to maintain a safety factor of 1.5 under fail safe conditions. The dimensions of the plate are shown in Figure 1.

Understanding the failure of epoxy resin U-notched samples using cohesive models
Theoretical and Applied Fracture Mechanics, 2019The critical distances theory for predicting failure loads of notched solid polymers requires assuming very high values of the characteristic stress. These values have to be much higher than the nominal tensile strength without a reasonable explanation.

When a physically short fatigue crack propagates from a notch root, the crack growth rate shows a “V-shaped” behavior; i.e., the rate firstly decreases and then increases as the crack propagates.
