Ubiquinol is superior to ubiquinone to enhance Coenzyme Q10 status in older men.
Food & Function, 2018Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) exerts its functions in the body through the ability of its benzoquinone head group to accept and donate electrons. The primary functions are to relay electrons for ATP production in the electron transport chain and to act as an ...

On the biosynthesis of ubiquinone (50)
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1959Abstract It is shown that radioactive mevalonic acid is utilized for the synthesis of ubiquinone in the rat. 2,3-Dimethoxy-5-methyl-1,4-benzoquinone and dl -α-tocopherol are not precursors of the quinoid ring system. With progressive vitamin A depletion, the incorporation of mevalonic acid into ubiquinone of rat liver is enhanced.

Ubiquinone and Tocopherol in Birds
Nature, 1961UNLIKE the rat and the rabbit, it seems from nutritional studies made by several groups of workers that the chicken needs little vitamin E, providing its diet contains an adequate supply of selenium and only limited amounts of unsaturated fat1–3. Since tissue-levels of ubiquinone in the rat4 and rabbit5 are high compared with those given for some other

Ubiquinones and Ubichromenols in the Rat
Nature, 1960UBIQUINONE, a naturally occurring quinone of considerable biological interest, was first isolated by Morton et al. 1, who found it in many kinds of animal tissue. Lester et al. 2 have shown that a series of such quinones exist, and have isolated, from different organisms, five compounds of general formula :

Fluorogenic Ubiquinone Analogue for Monitoring Chemical and Biological Redox Processes.
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2016We report herein the synthesis and characterization of a fluorogenic analogue of ubiquinone designed to reversibly report on redox reactions in biological systems. The analogue, H2B-Q, consists of the redox-active quinone segment found in ubiquinone, 2,3-

Interaction of ubiquinone and vitamin K3 with mitochondrial succinate-ubiquinone oxidoreductase
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1992Two new methods have been devised for measuring fumarate reduction by beef heart succinate-ubiquinone oxidoreductase with quinols as electron donors. In one assay the quinone is maintained in the reduced state by coupling fumarate reduction with the DT-diaphorase reaction, in the other assay by the presence of excess dithionite. The advantages of these

Ferulenol specifically inhibits succinate ubiquinone reductase at the level of the ubiquinone cycle
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2007The natural compound ferulenol, a sesquiterpene prenylated coumarin derivative, was purified from Ferula vesceritensis and its mitochondrial effects were studied. Ferulenol caused inhibition of oxidative phoshorylation. At low concentrations, ferulenol inhibited ATP synthesis by inhibition of the adenine nucleotide translocase without limitation of ...
