Histories of User-generated Content: Between Formal and Informal Media Economies

open access: yesInternational Journal of Communication, 2011
Debates about user-generated content (UGC) often depend on a contrast with its normative opposite, the professionally produced content that is supported and sustained by commercial media businesses or public organizations. UGC is seen to appear within or

Comparative Chloroplast Genomics of Cousinia (Asteraceae) With Nine Newly Sequenced Endemic Species From Central Asia

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.
In this study, nine complete chloroplast genomes of Cousinia species endemic to the Pamir–Alay mountain system were sequenced and analyzed together with previously published plastomes and nuclear ribosomal ITS data. ABSTRACT Cousinia (Asteraceae: Cardueae) represents one of the most species‐rich genera within the Irano–Turanian floristic region, yet ...

Chloroplast Phylogenomics and Barcode Discovery in Medicinal Stachys Species Reveal Evolutionary Relationships and Adaptive Signatures

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.
This study presents the first complete chloroplast genomes of two medicinally important Stachys species, S. persica and S. germanica. Comparative phylogenomic analyses revealed highly conserved genomes with lineage‐specific variations, identified hypervariable regions as candidate DNA barcodes, and detected signatures of positive selection in the petB ...

Postharvest Losses Along the Small‐Scale Fish Value Chain in Bangladesh: Perceptions, Determinants and Implications for Food Security

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
Postharvest fish losses in Bangladesh remain substantial (about 10% for farmers and 12% for traders), driven by high temperatures, inadequate storage, poor handling practices, and market inefficiencies. Strengthening education and training, improving cooling practices, and enhancing transport and market access can significantly reduce these losses ...

Dual‐Polarization‐Sensitive Organic Photodetectors for Real‐Time Polarimetric Imaging

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, Volume 20, Issue 9, 6 May 2026.
Bias‐switchable organic photodetectors with orthogonally stacked uniaxially oriented polymer layers enable dual‐polarization detection and real‐time polarimetric imaging. This scalable, template‐free strategy achieves a high dichroic ratio (>11), rapid response (>500 Hz), and detectivity up to 1013 Jones.

A new combination and typification of Pouzolzia peteri Friis (Urticaceae)

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, Volume 2026, Issue 5, May 2026.
Pouzolzia peteri, a lesser‐known species from the African continent, is currently classified as a member of the genus Pouzolzia. However, based on the morphological characteristics of its male flowers and leaf venation, its transfer to the genus Gonostegia is proposed.

Blue Nitrogen: Global Rates and Economic Importance

open access: yesEarth's Future, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Nitrogen (N) pollution drives widespread coastal ecosystem collapse. In this paper, we argue that mangrove forests represent an undervalued natural mitigation solution for N pollution. By performing a comprehensive global meta‐analysis, we reveal that mangroves remove 870 Gg N annually, which represents an economic value reaching $8.7 billion ...
