Multiferroic‐Centric Materials and Systems Engineering for Battery Applications: An Insight Into Mechanisms, Strategies, and Characterizations

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multiferroic order parameters – polarization, magnetization, and ferroelastic strain – are positioned as dynamic design variables for batteries. Their mechanistic roles, practical tuning through fabrication and external fields, and ferroic‐resolved characterization routes are unified into a closed‐loop framework, revealing how coupled ferroic responses

Low-threshold, mirrorless emission at 981nm in an Yb,Gd,Lu:KYW inverted rib waveguide laser

open access: yes
In this work, we demonstrate 3-level laser operation in a Yb,Gd,Lu:KYW waveguide laser fabricated by combination of liquid phase epitaxy and Ar+ ion beam milling. Laser emission was observed at 981 nm with an absorbed threshold power of 23 mW and a slope

Non‐Equilibrium Synthesis of Whitlockite Assisted by Localized H2O Vapor Pressure

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A carbon substrate acts as a microheater during intense pulsed light irradiation, enabling rapid heating and cooling for whitlockite formation. In contrast to conventional white ceramic synthesis with weak photothermal response, this platform concentrates thermal energy locally and promotes phase‐selective crystallization under ultrafast ...

A Review of Failure Modes and Safety Strategies of Lithium‐Ion Batteries from Materials to Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A cascade‐aware framework is presented for lithium‐ion battery safety, linking thermal runaway initiation, acceleration, runaway reaction, and propagation with material‐, cell/pack‐, and system‐level interventions. By integrating failure mechanisms, quantitative safety indicators, and staged interception strategies, this review highlights how safer ...

Femtosecond‐Laser Nanocavitation Regenerates SERS‐Active Plasmonic Nanogaps for Longitudinal Molecular Sensing at Biointerfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A regenerative molecular sensing platform that co‐localizes surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) sensing and nanocavitation‐based actuation. Femtosecond‐laser triggered nanocavitation produces thermomechanical forces to locally regenerate SERS‐active nanogaps in protein‐rich biofluids while preserving optical performance.

Kinetic‐Directed Thermodynamic Repair Enables the Synthesis of High‐Strain 2D Sub‐Stoichiometric COFs

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
2D covalent organic frameworks are promising photocatalysts. Yet, precise synthesis of sub‐stoichiometric COFs remains challenging due to poor kinetic control. We propose a general strategy: tuning polymerization degree of kinetic intermediates via time or solvent polarity directs their thermodynamic repair into highly crystallization. Using [4+3]‐type
