Ultrasonic C-Scan and shearography NDI techniques evaluation of impact defects identification

NDT & E International, 2006
The new all-composite wing for semi-aerobatic sport and training aircraft is being developed in the Czech aircraft industry. The typical outer composite structure of this wing is sandwich with carbon skins in combination with honeycomb. This new composite structure is designed in accordance with CS-23 airworthiness requirements.

High-sensitivity laser-based ultrasonic C-scan system for materials inspection

Experimental Mechanics, 1999
A beam-steering C-scan system for laser generation and detection of ultrasound in opaque solids has been developed. For ultrasound detection, the system uses a confocal Fabry-Perot interferometer that is stabilized at its high-sensitivity point by implementing a novel procedure that does not require a reference beam.

Ultrasonic C-scan techniques for the evaluation of impact damage in CFRP

, 2021
In the present work, different ultrasonic C-scan approaches were used to evaluate Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) submitted to impacts of low energy, in order to evaluate their effectiveness for the detection and characterization of small defects.

Quantitative determination of the defects in TC4 diffusion bonded joints via ultrasonic C-scan

, 2021
Ultrasonic C-scan was conducted to detect the defect size of TC4 diffusion-bonded joints quantitatively. Additionally, C-scan images were obtained using the amplitudes of time-domain signal, main frequency of frequency-domain signal, and amplitudes of ...

Neural network correction of ultrasonic C-scan images

Ultrasonics, 1999
A neural network-based approach to the correction of C-scan images is presented. This allows the effects of a finite ultrasonic beam diameter in an immersion experiment to be considered, by training the network on a series of defects of known characteristics. The result is an image which is a better representation of the actual defect.

A Quantitative Evaluation Method of Aero-engine Blade Defects Based on Ultrasonic C-Scan

2020 IEEE Far East NDT New Technology & Application Forum (FENDT), 2020
Given the unintuitive and nonquantitative analysis of traditional artificial detection results of aero-engine blades, a characterization evaluation technique has been carried out based on ultrasonic defect point cloud. 3-D reconstruction display model of

Analysis of internal defects in 3D braided composites based on ultrasonic C-scan technique

, 2020
Defects can form within 3D braided composites as a result of their special production processes, which can affect the mechanical performance of the composites. Thus, it is absolutely essential to test for and analyse different types of defect. This paper

Evaluation of the bonded ratio of TC4 diffusion bonded joints based on ultrasonic C-scan

Journal of Manufacturing Processes, 2019
The immersion ultrasonic C-scan ((IUCT) test was conducted for evaluating the bonded ratio of the TC4 diffusion bonded joints. The signal characteristics reflected by the typical bonding states of the joint, gap, kissing bond, microvoids and sound bond ...
