Guided ultrasonic waves in composite cylinders
Mechanics of Composite Materials, 2007The ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation of composite cylinders requires a thorough understanding of the propagation of waves in these materials. In this paper, the propagation of flexural and longitudinal guided waves in fiber-reinforced composite (FRC) rods with transversely isotropic symmetry properties is studied.

Guided wave nuances for ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation
IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 2000Recent developments in guided wave generation, reception, and mode control show that increased penetration power and sensitivity are possible. A tone burst function generator and appropriate signal processing are generally used. Variable angle beam and comb-type transducers are the key to this effort.

Ultrasonic guided wave vibration formulation
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2012A novel transient-guided-wave-based approach to predicting natural vibration frequencies and mode shapes of a semi-infinite plate has been developed. This theory uses the orthogonal propagating and evanescent guided wave modes to fully satisfy the elasticity structural vibration boundary value problem for the structure.

Ultrasonic guided wave tomography of pipes
2010 International Conference on Audio, Language and Image Processing, 2010Ultrasonic guided wave tomography has been shown to be an effective nondestructive evaluation technique for pipe-like structures. Guided waves propagating in pipe with damage are simulated using the finite element and the first arrival times of the received signals are extracted as input data of tomography.

2019The defect of the aluminum plate concerned in this chapter is mainly the plate thickness loss-type defect caused by corrosion, and the plate thickness change caused by such defects is relatively flat. When Lamb waves encounter such defects, the amplitudes of other modal waves generated by modal transformation are relatively small.

Cure monitoring using ultrasonic guided waves in wires
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2003The possibility of using ultrasonic guided waves for monitoring the cure process of epoxy resins is investigated. The two techniques presented use a wire waveguide which is partly embedded in the resin. The first technique is based on the measurement of attenuation due to leakage of bulk waves into the resin surrounding the waveguide.
