The Role of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) in the Formation of Extracellular Traps (ETs) in Humans
Extracellular traps (ETs) are reticulate structures of extracellular DNA associated with antimicrobial molecules. Their formation by phagocytes (mainly by neutrophils: NETs) has been identified as an essential element of vertebrate innate immune defense.

Follicular complex may predict reproductive tactics in siluriform fishes
In this study, we evaluated the morphology and morphometry of the layers that make up the follicular complex surrounding mature oocytes in the six fish species Auchenipterichthys longimanus, Ageneiosus ucayalensis, Hypophthalmus marginatus, Baryancistrus

Plasmolysis: Loss of Turgor and Beyond
Plasmolysis is a typical response of plant cells exposed to hyperosmotic stress. The loss of turgor causes the violent detachment of the living protoplast from the cell wall. The plasmolytic process is mainly driven by the vacuole.

Ultrastructure of Lipoma [PDF]
Eleven benign lipogenic tumors comprising ten ordinary lipomas and one fibroblastic lipoma were studied by light and electron microscopy. The former, which contained only a few inconspicuous septa, were composed of univacuolar mature adipocytes. No young forms of adipocytic differentiation were seen reflecting the slow growth of the ordinary lipomas ...

Ultrastructure Organization of Human Trabeculae Assessed by 3D sSAXS and Relation to Bone Microarchitecture. [PDF]
Although the organization of bone ultrastructure, i.e. the orientation and arrangement of the mineralized collagen fibrils, has been in the focus of research for many years for cortical bone, and many models on the osteonal arrangement have been proposed,

Ultrastructure of the esthesioneuroblastoma [PDF]
A tumor in the anatomic location and with the light microscopic appearance of an esthesioneuroblastoma was examined with the electron microscope. Secretory-type granules, cytoplasmic fibrils, and microtubules similar to those described in neuroblastomas were found in many of the tumor cells, which supports an origin from the sympathetic autonomic ...

Inner ear tissue preservation by rapid freezing: Improving fixation by high-pressure freezing and hybrid methods. [PDF]
In the preservation of tissues in as 'close to life' state as possible, rapid freeze fixation has many benefits over conventional chemical fixation. One technique by which rapid freeze-fixation can be achieved, high pressure freezing (HPF), has been ...

Endocytosis and Digestion in Carnivorous Pitcher Plants of the Family Sarraceniaceae
Highly evolved carnivorous plants secrete digestive enzymes for degradation of trapped animals and absorb whole macromolecules from their prey by means of endocytosis.

Ultrastructure of osteoblastoma [PDF]
The ultrastructure of three cases of osteoblastoma is described. The osteoblasts resemble normal osteoblasts with a few exceptions: irregular, indented nuclei, and occasional mitochondria with curved cristae and electron-lucent areas. The osteocytes and osteoclasts basically resemble their normal counterparts.
