Spitzer Observations of Centaurus A: Infrared Synchrotron Emission from the Northern Lobe

open access: yes, 2006
We present measurements obtained with the Spitzer Space Telescope in five bands from 3.6-24 microns of the northern inner radio lobe of Centaurus A, the nearest powerful radio galaxy. We show that this emission is synchrotron in origin.

Evaluation of daily residual pancreatic tumor motion for deep‐inspiration breath‐hold radiotherapy

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Breath‐hold techniques are widely used in radiation therapy to minimize respiratory‐induced tumor or organ‐at‐risk motion. However, residual motion persists, necessitating a reliable daily evaluation method. Methods At our institution, fiducial markers serve as surrogates for target localization in pancreatic cancer treatment.

An Inexpensive High-Temporal Resolution Electronic Sun Journal for Monitoring Personal Day to Day Sun Exposure Patterns

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health, 2017
Exposure to natural sunlight, specifically solar ultraviolet (UV) radiation contributes to lifetime risks of skin cancer, eye disease, and diseases associated with vitamin D insufficiency.

Note on ultraviolet renormalization and ground state energy of the Nelson model [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Ultraviolet (UV) renormalization of the Nelson model in quantum field theory is considered. A relationship between a ultraviolet renormalization term and the ground state energy of the Hamiltonian with total momentum zero is studied by functional integrations.

Artificial Receptor in Synthetic Cells Performs Transmembrane Activation of Proteolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Transmembrane signaling is the hallmark of living cells and is among the highest challenges for the design of synthetic cells. Herein, an artificial receptor based on the chemistry of self‐immolative linkers is used to communicate information across the lipid bilayer, for transmembrane activation of enzymatic activity. Abstract The design of artificial,

Host cell and ultraviolet reactivation of ultraviolet-irradiated Mycoplasmaviruses [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1977
The mycoplasma Acholeplasma laidlawii was shown to have mechanisms for both host cell and ultraviolet (UV) reactivation of UV-irradiated mycoplasmaviruses. Host cell reactivation was examined by comparing the survival abilities of UV-irradiated double-stranded deoxyribonucleic acid mycoplasmavirus plated on both untreated and on acriflavine-treated ...

Elucidating the Supramolecular Interaction of Positively Supercharged Fluorescent Protein with Anionic Phthalocyanines

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Positively supercharged mGreenLatern protein is self‐assembled electrostatically with negatively charged zinc phthalocyanines to yield bio‐based photoactive materials in aqueous media. The addition of phthalocyanines results in the formation of large complexes fully quenching of the protein fluorescence. The results indicate an energy transfer from the

Ultraviolet and extreme-ultraviolet line ratio diagnostics for O IV [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Aims: We generate theoretical ultraviolet and extreme-ultraviolet emission line ratios for O IV and show their strong versatility as electron temperature and density diagnostics for astrophysical plasmas. Methods: Recent fully relativistic calculations of radiative rates and electron impact excitation cross sections for O IV, supplemented with earlier ...

Gage measures total radiation, including vacuum UV, from ionized high-temperature gases [PDF]

open access: yes, 1969
Transient-heat transfer gage measures the total radiation intensity from vacuum ultraviolet and ionized high temperature gases. The gage includes a sensitive piezoelectric crystal that is completely isolated from any ionized flow and vacuum ultraviolet ...
