Comment on "Swarming Ring Patterns in Bacterial Colonies Exposed to Ultraviolet Radiation" [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2002
Commenting on the paper "Swarming Ring Patterns in Bacterial Colonies Exposed to Ultraviolet Radiation" of A.M. Delprato et al., Phys. Rev. Lett 87, 158102 (2001) we point out that their observed ring pattern formation by colonies of soil bacteria Bacillus subtilis exposed to ultra violet (UV) radiation might be caused by the artificial confinement of ...

Fibrous Pb(II)‐Based Coordination Polymer Operable as a Photocatalyst and Electrocatalyst for High‐Rate, Selective CO2‐to‐Formate Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A coordination polymer [Pb(tadt)]n prepared by a microwave‐assisted solvothermal method selectively reduces CO2 into formate under visible light with a high apparent quantum yield of ≈25% at 400 nm. It can function as a pre‐catalyst, along with conductive Ketjen Black, to form an active PbCO3/Pb3(CO3)2(OH)2 mixture that exhibits a high Faradaic ...

EFEITO DA RADIAÇÃO ULTRAVIOLETA NA COR DA MADEIRA DE FREIJÓ (Cordia goeldiana Huber) APÓS RECEBER PRODUTOS DE ACABAMENTOS

open access: yesCiência Florestal, 2010
Ultraviolet radiation is considered the most damaging radiation to wood, affecting itsproperties and especially its color. The application of finishing products such as varnishes, stains and inks can minimize the action of this radiation.

Ocular ultraviolet radiation exposure of welders

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Work, Environment & Health, 2017
I read with interest a recent paper in your journal by Slagor et al on the risk of cataract in relation to metal arc welding (1). The authors highlight that even though welders are exposed to substantial levels of ultraviolet radiation (UVR), “no studies

3D Printed Ultra‐Fast Plastic Scintillators Based on Perovskite‐Photocurable Polymer Composite

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
The demand for radiation detection is increasing in a number of fields, including high‐energy physics, medical imaging, and homeland security. This study serves to demonstrate the potential for the fabrication of fast perovskite‐based scintillators with complex shapes via stereolithographic additive manufacturing, representing a new path toward the ...

Discovery of an Ionizing Radiation Field in the Universe [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
We draw attention to observational evidence indicating that a substantial fraction of the well-known cosmic celestial diffuse ultraviolet background radiation field is actually due not to dust-scattered starlight, but rather---considering its spectral character at most locations in the sky---has an unknown physical origin.

Structurally Colored Physically Unclonable Functions with Ultra‐Rich and Stable Encoding Capacity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
This study reports a design strategy for generating bright‐field resolvable physically unclonable functions with extremely rich encoding capacity coupled with outstanding thermal and chemical stability. The optical response emerges from thickness‐dependent structural color formation in ZnO features, which are fabricated by physical vapor deposition ...

The Emerging 4D Printing of Shape‐Memory Thermomorphs for Self‐Adaptative Biomedical Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
4D printing enables the creation of smart implants that adapt to changing conditions in the human body over time. At the core of this technology are shape‐memory thermomorphs (SMTMs). This review offers an in‐depth analysis of 4D printing with SMTMs, emphasizing the latest advancements in smart materials, stimuli, programming principles, and their ...

Multiphoton Femtosecond Control of Resonance-Mediated Generation of Short-Wavelength Coherent Broadband Radiation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2009
We introduce a new scheme for generating short-wavelength coherent broadband radiation with well-controlled spectral characteristics. It is based on shaping long-wavelength femtosecond pulse to coherently control atomic resonance-mediated (2+1) three-photon excitation to a broad far-from-resonance continuum.
