A note on umbilic points at infinity

open access: yesBeiträge zur Algebra und Geometrie / Contributions to Algebra and Geometry
Abstract In this note a definition of umbilic point at infinity is proposed, at least for surfaces that are homogeneous polynomial graphs over a plane in Euclidean 3-space. This is a stronger definition than that of Toponogov in his study of complete convex surfaces, and allows one to distinguish between different umbilic points at infinity ...

AI–Guided 4D Printing of Carnivorous Plants–Inspired Microneedles for Accelerated Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents an artificial intelligence (AI)‐guided 4D‐printed microneedle platform inspired by carnivorous plants for wound healing. A thermo‐responsive shape memory polymer enables body temperature–triggered self‐coiling for autonomous wound closure.

Unusual shock wave in two-species driven systems with an umbilic point [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Using dynamical Monte Carlo simulations we observe the occurrence of an unexpected shock wave in driven diffusive systems with two conserved species of particles.

Conductive Hydrogels for Exogenous Sensing and Cell Fate Control

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We engineer electrically conductive hydrogels by combining sulfated glycosaminoglycans with semiconducting polymers. These hydrogels bind bioactive proteins, including growth factors, whose release or retention can be modulated by low‐voltage stimulation. The hydrogels are also integrated as 3D channels in organic electrochemical transistors as part of

Conformal Geometry of Quasi-Umbilical Timelike Surfaces

open access: yes
The paper focuses on the conformal Lorentz geometry of quasi-umbilical timelike surfaces in the (1+2)-Einstein universe, the conformal compactification of Minkowski 3-space realized as the space of oriented null lines through the origin of R^{2,3}.

A Reproducible and Scalable Process for High Yield Mesenchymal Stromal Cell Extracellular Vesicles Production

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Mesenchymal stem cell derived extracellular vesicles (MSC‐EVs) are a promising therapeutic tool for regenerative medicine. However, the field lacks a reproducible high‐yield production method to answer the quantities needed for clinical translation.

Tunable 3D‐Printed Static Mixers for Gradient Bioprinting With High Cell Viability

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The fabrication of native tissue‐like structures with gradual transitions in material properties, cell types, and growth factors remains a major challenge in biofabrication due to the lack of suitable methods. Mimicking the hierarchical organization of living tissues is essential for functional models, yet creating gradient, multimaterial ...

A Pressure Microsensor Made of Parylene‐C for Use as Medical Implant

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A monolithic parylene‐C pressure sensor with gold strain gauges provides 6.2 μV$\mu{\rm V}$·mmHg$\cdot{\rm mmHg}$−1$^{-1}$ sensitivity. The morphology of a sputtered thin film strain sensor is granular/columnar, which results in a high gauge factor of 7.5. Thermal bonding and parylene‐C coating create a hermetic cavity.

Diagnostic performances of the fluorescent spot test for G6PD deficiency in newborns along the Thailand-Myanmar border: A cohort study [version 1; referees: 2 approved]

open access: yesWellcome Open Research, 2018
Background: Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency is an inherited enzymatic disorder associated with severe neonatal hyperbilirubinemia and acute haemolysis after exposure to certain drugs or infections.
