Radiographic visualization of the portal venous system by splenoportography has proved worthwhile in the evaluation of patients with portal hypertension. This technie, however, has serious technical limitations, is hazardous, and is frequently contraindicated in patients to whom it might be of great value.

The Anatomy of the Umbilical Vein
Australian and New Zealand Journal of Surgery, 1969Interest in the umbilical vein has been aroused recently because of its potential in hepatic radiology and hepalic surgery. This paper describes the anatomy of the umbilical vein and its junction with the portal vein.

Umbilical and portal vein calcification following umbilical vein catheterization
Pediatric Radiology, 1989Calcifications of the umbilical vein and intrahepatic branches of the portal vein developed in a newborn who had an umbilical vein catheter inserted for 11 days postnatally. The calcified intrahepatic portal veins can still be demonstrated sonographically at the age of three years, but these calcifications were no longer detectable radiologically.

A Benign Anomalous Umbilical Vein
Ultrasound Quarterly, 2016A rare case of an anomalous umbilical vein with a previously unreported outcome is described. Most reported cases of anomalous umbilical veins are associated with significant concurrent fetal anomalies and poor outcomes. Fetal magnetic resonance imaging was used in this case to confirm normal portal and hepatic venous vasculature.
